The Unity Breakfast committee will present the 2021 award to Rhode Moise, Program Director at the Watertown Boys & Girls Club, at the MLK Day Unity Breakfast on Jan. 18.

The following announcement was provided by the Unity Award Committee:

A favorite annual tradition at each MLK Day Unity Breakfast is the presentation of the Unity Award. The Unity Award recognizes an individual or group that is furthering Dr. King’s vision of racial, social and economic justice right here in our town. The Unity Breakfast committee is honored to present this year’s award to Rhode Moise, Program Director at the Watertown Boys & Girls Club.

This year the Unity Award, and the entire Unity Breakfast program, will be presented virtually through a collaboration with WCA-TV. The program will be streamed at 10:00 am, January 18, here: https://www.worldinwatertown.org/ub21. Alternatively, it can be viewed at the same time on local cable TV channels 9 on Comcast and 3 on RCN.

Rhode Moise has become an articulate and effective advocate for Watertown youth in recent years. She joined the staff of the Watertown Boys and Girls Club in 2017 and quickly rose from a part-time staff member to full-time Program Director. When the Club was planning its new teen center, Ms. Moise’s input as well as her relationship-building with youth helped set the stage for the opening of a vibrant center.

Last spring, following the murder of George Floyd, Ms. Moise was front and center in holding the Club and community accountable for combating systemic racism. Over the summer and fall she has been very active with the Kingian Response Team in its work with the School Department, the Police Department, and the greater community to initiate anti-racist projects and programs.

The Watertown community is deeply fortunate to have in Rhode Moise a strong mentor and powerful advocate for both youth leadership and racial justice.

Tune in to view the presentation of the Unity Award to Ms. Moise during the virtual Unity Breakfast broadcast on Monday, January 18 at 10 a.m. For more information visit:
