The Watertown Library provided the following announcement:

Following a difficult year, the Watertown Free Public Library has chosen an uplifting theme for this year’s One Book, One Watertown March events. As we all look forward to a reopened world, the Library invites our community to come together, virtually, to share what we love most (and miss the most) about being human.

“This year’s One Book title, The Humans by Matt Haig, is all about the joys, frustrations, and often hilarious pitfalls of being human, as observed by an alien outsider,” says Jill Clements, WFPL Adult Services Supervisor. “We hope it will remind us all to cherish the things that bind us together, because, in the final analysis, we’re all we’ve got.”

Here’s what the Library has planned for March:

Community Book Discussion: The Humans by Matt Haig

Wednesday, 3/3 | 7 PM | via Zoom | The Wednesday Book Group is WFPL’s monthly book discussion group for adults. Discussions are informal and generally based on personal reactions, not academic analysis.

“Among Us” Community Play

Friday, 3/5 and 3/19 | 7 PM | Join us for a rousing community game of Among Us! See if you can figure out who among us is the alien in this popular online game of deduction. Detailed instructions provided upon registration, space is limited. Best for ages 15+.

The Humans Pet Parade

In Haig’s novel, Newton the dog made being human almost bearable. Now we’re inviting you to celebrate your furry best friends! Send a photo of your pet (or you with your pet) to watref@watertown-ma.gov. Please include: 1.) your pet’s name, 2.) species/breed, 3.) what they think is the BEST thing about humans. We’ll post the photos and captions on social media in March!

Digital Community Board: What Makes You Human?

What do you like most about being human? What gives you hope for humanity? Submit your thoughts via our community board submission form: watertownlib.org/onebook. Your entry will be transcribed onto a digital post-it, which will appear on a virtual bulletin board on the Library’s website. We’ll share the board on social media in March!

Book, eBook, and audiobook copies of The Humans by Matt Haig are available from WFPL. For more information and event registration, visit watertownlib.org/onebook
