The Watertown Recreation Department has a variety of programs this spring. See the descriptions below.

The Recreation Department provided the following inforrmation:

Programs will operate indoors & outdoors, please look out for updates prior to scheduled programs. In the event of inclement weather, outdoor participants will be notified by text/email that the program will be canceled or ended early.

General

• All programs are offered to Watertown residents only.
• Before registering, check that the participant meets the age/grade level qualifications.
• Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until a program fills or begins.
• Payment must be made in full prior to the start of the program (contact Director Centola if you wish to seek other arrangements).

Cancellation Policy

• If insufficient enrollment causes an activity to be canceled, participants will have their choice to accept a full credit to their Recreation account or receive a refund check in 4-6 weeks.

Withdrawal from Program

• Participants who withdraw from a program at least 1 week prior to the start may receive a credit.
• Participants who withdraw from a program less than 1 week prior to the start of the program are not eligible for a credit, as program expenses (staffing, supplies, etc.) will have been incurred.
• A credit/refund may be given for medical reasons which arise at any point prior to the program start date. To be eligible for such a credit/refund, the request must be in the form of a letter to the Recreation Department. If the medical issue arises after the start of the program a prorated refund/credit may be given.

Online Registration

• Registrations will be 100% online.
• By registering online, participants will have agreed to the accompanying WRD waiver & release forms.
• You must have a valid credit card for online registrations. Please keep the email confirmation as your receipt.
• A processing fee of 2.95% will be charged to each transaction, the processing fee is non-refundable.

April Vacation Program K-8

This fun and safe program will focus on keeping the participants physically active and socially engaged throughout the day. All participants will enjoy age appropriate activities such as basketball, kickball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, classic group games, flag football, volleyball, etc. In addition, there will be arts & crafts, board games, and special
events. The program will be outdoor weather permitting, and all Covid-19 local and state guidelines will be followed.

Pre-K Outdoor Sports

This program will focus on fun and the fundamentals of soccer, basketball, and other team and group games. The children will work on skills needed to play these games and learn about teamwork and sportsmanship in a fun, safe setting. Parents/guardians in attendance must maintain social distancing and face coverings at all times.

Junior Creative Crafts & Games

Glue, paint, color, cut, sprinkle, make a mess. It’s all part of the fun! Come join us and meet new friends as we create special works of art that you can treasure for a life-time. This program will also incorporate safe classroom/table games. This class encourages creativity, teaches children to be proud of their accomplishments, and develop a sense of fair play and sportsmanship.

Junior All Sports

Participants will gain fundamental athletic skills while working as a team to learn games and group activities. All activities will take place in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and most of all fun.

Junior Raiders

Participants will take part in group games and activities including a variety of team sports, after-school classics, and gym class favorites. All activities will take place in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and most of all fun.

Youth Tennis

Participants will be taught many tennis skills including forehand, backhand, serving, and scoring. Students in the class will also have the opportunity to compete in singles and doubles match play focused on good sportsmanship and fun.

Futsal at Casey

This program will consist of drills, scrimmages and games. The focus of the program is to provide a fun, positive atmosphere while teaching the sport of futsal soccer and the excitement of being a part of a team.

Field Hockey

Participants will gain fundamental field hockey skills while working as a team to learn the game in a modified, safe setting. The goal is an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and most of all fun.

Do It Yourself Science

Create your own do-it-yourself science toys. Each week we’ll explore and build fun toys and gadgets that you make – and learn the science behind them. Make a mini catapult to launch a pom pom as you learn about energy and motion.
Study how magnets work and make a moving magnet car. Sooth your mind with a silly sensory bag and celestial swirling bottle. Make a marble maze and design a house for an action figure. Creative engineering fun!

All Sports Program

Participants will gain fundamental athletic skills while working as a team to learn games and group activities. All activities will take place in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and most of all fun.

Flag Football

This program will consist of drills and a scrimmage, then teams are created for the games played in the remaining weeks. The focus of the program is to provide a fun, positive atmosphere while teaching the sport of flag football
and the excitement of being a part of a team. Players must wear gloves for the duration of the program.

Basketball – Open Court

Participants will have the opportunity to compete in pick-up style basketball with peers to promote good sportsmanship in a fun, safe atmosphere under the supervision of our staff. The court will be closed to outside visitors during this time.

Cops ‘N’ Rec Street Hockey

The objectives of the street hockey program are to promote sportsmanship and teamwork in a fun and positive setting. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the rules and fundamentals of street hockey such as stick handling and shooting.

Cops ‘N’ Rec Basketball

The objective of the Middle School basketball program is to promote sportsmanship and teamwork in a fun, positive, and safe setting, while focusing on basketball fundamentals like passing, dribbling, shooting and defense.

Wiffle Ball League

Warm weather is back and so is wiffle ball. Participants will develop pitches like curveballs, sinkers, and knuckleballs as well as how to hit them. The goal is to provide a safe, positive and fun environment to compete.

Ultimate Frisbee

The fast-paced fun of ultimate frisbee is here. Participants will learn the rules of the game, sharpen their basic skills, and compete with friends while maintaining the focus on good sportsmanship and fun.

Adult Tennis

The spring tennis program participants will have the opportunity to sharpen tennis skills and will also have the opportunity to compete in singles and doubles match play. All participants are encouraged to bring their own tennis racquet. For those without equipment, racquets will be provided.

Adult Pickleball

The adult pickleball program is designed to provide exercise and fun for participants of all ages and ability. The program court time to enjoy both leisurely and competitive play in a recreational setting. Come get involved in one of the fastest growing recreational activities.

Health & Safety

  • All Recreation programs will be run in accordance with the COVID-19 policies and procedures listed below.
  • The Watertown Recreation Department wants everyone to have a healthy, safe and enjoyable experience while participating in all of the seasonal programs. Here are some new protocols to help make that happen.
  • Staff & program participants will be required to turn in a daily health survey prior to the admission to the program.
  • Social distancing guidelines are in place from drop-off to pick-up.
  • Daily/as needed disinfecting procedures in place for all equipment and facilities.
  • Procedures in place to safely operate and manage emergent situations.
  • Face coverings mandatory at all times, with limited exceptions.
  • Programs that operate outdoors will be cancelled for the day or end early in the event of inclement weather.

Communication

✓ It is essential that the Recreation Department have a list of your emergency contacts in the event you are not available or cannot be reached. If your phone numbers change, please make sure you inform the Recreation Department.
✓ Communication will be sent out via text and email regarding absences, weather cancelations, emergencies and Covid-19 updates, etc. Please check your email and texts on a regular basis.
✓ Daily discussions will remind participants about procedures to be followed in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
