Town Council Will Hear About Department Budgets at 4 Budget Hearings

The Town Council will hear about the budget for each municipal department as well as the Watertown Public Schools during the Fiscal Year 2022 budget hearings, which begin May 17.

Four budget meetings are planned, and the Council will hold a public hearing and vote on the FY22 budget on June 8.

Unlike most years, the department heads will not be presenting PowerPoint slideshows about their department in 2021, said Council President Mark Sideris. The Department heads will be available during the hearings to answer the Council’s questions.

The Town of Watertown provided the following information:

The Fiscal Year 2022 General Fund Budget, as proposed, totals $164,430,000. Additionally, the Fiscal Year 2022 Water and Sewer Enterprise Budgets, as proposed, totals $19,689,313.

The public hearings on the Town Manager’s Proposed Budget for the Fiscal Year 2022
will be held as follows:

Monday, May 17, 2021 – 6 PM
Budget Overview – The Town Manager
General Government Departments
Recreation Departments

Thursday, May 20, 2021 – 6 PM
Public Safety Departments
Department of Public Works
Water & Sewer Enterprise Budgets

Tuesday, May 25, 2021 – (Approximately 8 PM)
(This budget hearing will follow the regular scheduled Town Council Meeting)
Town Attorney
Health and Human Services Departments

Thursday, June 3, 2021 – 6 PM
School Department
Library
Non-Department Appropriations, (Debt, Capital Projects, Etc.)

Department Heads will be available for questions at the above scheduled hearings.

On Tuesday, June 8th, the Watertown Town Council will hold a Special Town Council Meeting at which time a public hearing and vote on the proposed Fiscal Year 2022 Budget will take place. The hearing will begin at 6 PM.

The annual Town Budget is the single most important policy decision made each year by the Town Council. All citizens of the Town are invited and encouraged to participate in these meetings remotely and to express the opinions of this budget and the priorities it establishes.
