First Parish of Watertown Rev. Sophia Lyons was chosen to be the new minister at First Parish of Watertown.

The following announcement was provided by First Parish of Watertown:

First Parish of Watertown is pleased to welcome Reverend Sophia Lyons as its new minister. The congregation voted to call Rev. Sophia as its minister last spring, after a year-long search and discernment process.

First Parish of Watertown is a Unitarian Universalist congregation, welcoming people from all faith traditions and backgrounds to join in finding meaning and building connections. Rev. Sophia embodies the breadth of spirituality, compassion, honesty, and passion in her ministry that came through as the congregation’s key desires for a minister. She is deeply committed to building Beloved Community, to being radically welcoming, and to anti-oppression work.

“I am glad and grateful to be the minister here at the First Parish of Watertown,” says Rev. Sophia. “For these are a kind and deeply loving people, doing so much good in the community and world. If you’re thinking about visiting us, I hope you too will feel the love and welcome that thrums at the center of this, our spirit’s home. It’s a truly special place.”

Worship services at First Parish of Watertown continue to be held online this fall. Over the summer, new audio-video equipment was installed in the building, allowing Rev. Sophia and the worship team to lead services live from the sanctuary. This equipment prepares the congregation for multi-platform worship once it is safe to gather in person, continuing to welcome members and visitors to participate live online.

Sunday worship is held weekly at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. Visit fpwatertown.org to learn more, and please contact office@fpwatertown.org in advance to receive the Zoom link for online worship.
