  1. Why is this news? Very slow day? Every time there is a Monday holiday, is delayed by one day. We all know that. Or we look to see what our neighbors are putting out. The bigger criticism here is that you need to refer to it as indigenous peoples day. If you want to do both that is Columbus Day/indigenous peoples day OK but let’s be part of the renaming of this holiday

  2. It’s “news” because on July 4th weekend earlier this year, it was (oddly) not delayed by one day, and that was confusing and surprised quite a lot of people.

  3. Totally makes sense to have Watertown News remind us all about delayed trash days.

But I want to respond to the comment about ongoing rat problem in our town. I live in an area where there are many overcrowded homes that are rentals. Some have way more people than zoning allows and some of these homes have illegal apartments. All of this adds to our rat problem because these homes tend to have more trash than others. I see trash toters overflowing all the time on trash day and even before trash day these toters are up against the sides of the homes overflowing. I don’t understand why our Zoning Office and DPW is not doing anything about this or giving out fines to these properties. In many cases these are rental properties with absentee landlords that just don’t seem to care.

Another issue I see regularly is residents sticking their trash in their neighbors toters. That should not be allowed. If someone sticks trash in my toter but it contains things that shouldn’t be in there then it becomes my burden to get rid of it.

So please to our Zoning Office and DPW Office, lets start enforcing some policies on overcrowding. Let’s start eliminating the illegal apartments that exist all over town and with that should come a reduced amount of trash people are putting out.

  4. Drivers a openly using they cell phones while driving. In towns and highways. There was lots of noise in the beginning of the ban. It is dangerous for the other drivers. My request to the Watertown Police to be more vigilant and enforce the ban of cell phones while driving. Thanks!
