Watertown Field Hockey, Boy’s Soccer Teams Earn State Tourney Berths

The Watertown High School field hockey team will kick off its state tournament at home, while the boy’s soccer team will head on the road for to open the tournament.

Field Hockey

The undefeated Raiders (18-0) are seeded second in the MIAA Div. 3 Field Hockey Tournament. The Raiders host the winner of Martha’s Vineyard and East Longmeadow. The round of 32 game will be at Victory Field at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7. The winner will face either Oakmont or Gloucester.

The new MIAA format no longer has sections, and the entire state is in one bracket. The seedings are based on Power Rankings that take into account the margin of victory or loss by the team, as well as the opponent’s margin of victory or loss. The top seed in Div. 3 is Sandwich, which has a record of 14-1-2.

Boy’s Soccer

The MIAA seeded the Watertown boys soccer team (7-8-5) 21st in the MIAA Div. 3 Boys Soccer State Tournament. The Raiders will face 12th-seeded Nipmuc (11-4-3) on Saturday, Nov. 6. The game is at 5 p.m. at the NEFC field, 33 Cape Road in Mendon.

The winner of that game will likely take on the fifth-seeded Cardinal Spellman.
