The City Council will host a special meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. to take another look at the agreement about use of fields made by City with Buckingham Browne & Nichols.
In November 2020, the Council voted approve an agreement between Watertown and the school to share fields. BB&N would have access to nearby fields at Filippello Park in the hours right after school, and Watertown residents could use BB&N’s fields in the evenings and on weekends.
In June the Planning Board voted to approve the proposal by BB&N to build an athletic complex on Grove Street with an artificial turf surface. Board members objected to using artificial turf, but were told by the Watertown staff that they could not dictate what surface is used at the field.
A group of residents have opposed having artificial turf installed at BB&N, citing health concerns.
The meeting will be held in the Council Chamber in City Hall, 149 Main St., at 6 p.m. The public can also attend and participate via Zoom, and will be broadcast by Watertown Cable Access.

Do you know why planning board members have a problem with BB&N building an artificial turf field (even though they have no jurisdiction over the surface)? They unanimously approved the synthetic turf recreation area at Arsenal Yards a few years ago. Doesn’t that seem hypocritical?
I am not sure. I believe they spoke about preferring natural grass at Arsenal Yards before approving artificial turf. You would have to ask the Board members.
