Watertown High School’s boys hockey team will seek a second straight trip to the Garden as the fifth seed in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament. The girls and boys basketball teams will host a home game in the State Tourney.
The Raiders (11-6-3), who moved up from Div. 4 after joining with Wayland to form a co-op team, received the fifth seed in the Div. 3 bracket. The first game will be on March 1 at 8 p.m. against 28th seed Southeastern Regional Voc Tech (11-8-1) at John A. Ryan Arena in Watertown. Seedings are based on results and strength of schedule. The winner plays either No. 12 Dracut or No. 21 North Quincy.
The seeding means if Watertown will not have to hit the road until the quarterfinals, if the results follow the seeding. The fourth seed is Nauset, located in Eastham on the Cape. The semis are played at a neutral site, and the finals are at Boston’s TD Garden.
The Watertown girls basketball team will have a first round home game in the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament. The Raiders (10-9) got the 14th seed, and will host 19th seeded Oakmont (12-8) on March 3 at 7 p.m.
With a victory, the Raiders would face the winner of No. 3 seed Bishop Fenwick ( 13-7) or the winner of the matchup between the 30th and 35th seeds, Quabbin and Lowell Catholic.
The Raiders boys basketball team will get a home game in the preliminary round of the MIAA Div. 3 State Tournament (the play-in round, if you will). Watertown (8-12) got the 32nd seed, and will host 33rd seeded Rockland (12-8) on March 1 at 6 p.m.
The winner of the game faces top seed Archbishop Williams (19-1) in the first round of the tourney.
