For one week only, Watertown residents will have an opportunity to put out trash that does not fit in trash toters.

City officials sent out the following announcement:

The City of Watertown will offer an overflow trash week from January 8 through 12, 2024. Households may place up to 3 trash bags next to their trash tote for collection.

  1. Why was this week chosen? I would have thought that people had more extra trash the week after Christmas or New Year with boxes from gift buying and extra wrapping paper, waste from entertaining, etc.

Hopefully rats won’t get into the bags if they are put on the curbs too far in advance of pickups. Does Watertown have a law on the books stating what time rubbish is allowed to be put out? Cambridge had a law that you could only put out rubbish after 3 p.m. the day before the actual pickup. That way it wasn’t sitting out there for a long time.
