LETTER: Why I Think You Should Vote for My MOM!

Dear Watertown!

As the youngest of four kids , I’ve spent my whole life watching my mom, Amy Donohue, give her time and energy to the Watertown Public Schools. Education has always been number one in our house, whether it was volunteering on the PTO, helping with the Watertown Education Foundation events, or donating to every youth group and sports team you can think of.

When I was younger, I used to roll my eyes because she seemed to know everyone. Every teacher, every coach, every parent. It was honestly kind of annoying. But now that I’m older, I really appreciate how much she’s done and how many people she’s helped. I’ve seen former students stop her in the grocery store just to say how much she meant to them when she worked in the schools. That’s when I realized how much of a difference she’s made.

My mom truly cares about Watertown students, teachers, and families. She works hard, she listens, and she always puts kids first. I hope you’ll join me in voting for my mom, Amy Donohue, for a third term on the Watertown School Committee.

Clare Donohue,
Watertown High School class of 2028

  1. I love this letter, Clare. It’s very convincing. And I especially like how you reflected on your own changing opinions over the years. I can she that she’s an inspiration to you. Good for her … and good for you!

  2. Well done Clare. I totally agree. Your mom is an All-Star! We’d be sitting on my porch talking about a town or school issue. School lets out and as students walk by to Victory Field they see your mom. Mrs. Donohue they yell. The energy bursts loose. They start smiling and run up to say hello, share how school is going, and other life tidbits. Amy knows them all. It’s life affirming to watch them chatting back and forth.
Love, Respect, Caring, and Getting things done. That’s what your mom is all about. I wish we could clone her . She’ll always have my vote!

  3. Clare,
What a great letter about your mom and your transition from a young child to a young adult. I agree with Bruce, you are certainly a great writer and I am glad to support and vote for your mom and one of my greatest friends on Tuesday November 4th for a third time. She is certainly dedicated to Watertown schools, parents, children, teachers and staff of them. I encourage that everyone use one of their 3 votes for

  4. Hi Clare,

I am so impressed with the insight beyond your years that you show in this letter! Many kids don’t figure out who their mom is as a person until way past high school. You make a very convincing argument for voting for your mom. You’ve convinced me!

Besides that, your letter speaks volumes about how much your mom has given to Watertown and how dedicated she is to her kids…she’s a very busy lady!

Please keep writing. You’ve got a skills!
