Artemis Yoga, a beloved neighborhood yoga studio in East Watertown, proudly celebrates its 10-year anniversary this December. Since opening its doors in 2015, Artemis Yoga has become a cornerstone of the community having welcomed more than 10,000 unique students for more than 21,000 classes. Currently hosting than 40 classes a week, Artemis Yoga is an inviting, friendly light-filled space where students of all levels can build strength, find calm, and connect through yoga.

Liz Padula, founder of Artemis Yoga.

Founded by Liz Padula, a two-time breast cancer thriver, Artemis Yoga began as a vision to create a studio that embodied both healing and empowerment. “After facing breast cancer twice, I realized yoga was more than a practice, it was a path to clarity and resilience,” said Padula. “I wanted to share that sense of calm, strength, and purpose with others in a beautiful, supportive space.”

A Story of Growth, Revitalization, and Resilience

When Padula first opened Artemis Yoga, she completely revitalized a long-empty building in Watertown’s Coolidge Square, transforming it into a bright, modern studio filled with natural light, warm wood floors, and an atmosphere of calm. “It was important to me that the space itself reflected what we teach, that feeling of peace, openness, and balance,” Padula said.

Over the past decade, Artemis Yoga has grown from three daily classes to more than 40 weekly offerings, taught by experienced, alignment-based instructors. During the pandemic, Padula once again led a studio modernization and refresh by improving ventilation, updating technology for livestream classes, and ensuring the space remained beautiful, clean, and welcoming as students gradually returned.

“Entering a yoga studio can be nerve-wracking and Artemis is a place that is friendly and inclusive so that newcomers can feel that they belong, exactly as they are, said Julia Dunoyer, Marketing and Membership Manager at Artemis. “Watching students open up and become empowered by yoga is the greatest joy of my job.”

Extending Yoga Beyond the Studio

Artemis Yoga’s mission has always extended beyond its four walls. The studio regularly brings yoga to the broader community, offering programs in Watertown’s public schools, at the Watertown Boys & Girls Club, and within local businesses in biotech, education, and technology.

“We’ve always believed yoga should be accessible, whether it’s in a classroom, a corporate conference room, or the studio itself,” said Padula. “Our outreach programs allow us to share yoga’s benefits, the focus, calm, and confidence with people of all ages and abilities.”

When the global pandemic forced the temporary closure of in-person classes, Artemis quickly pivoted to livestream and outdoor sessions, helping students stay grounded and connected. The studio’s adaptability and community support helped it emerge stronger than ever, reflecting the strength and resilience symbolized by its namesake, the Greek goddess Artemis.

“From day one, I wanted Artemis Yoga to be a space where anyone could learn and practice yoga in community,” Padula shared. “Through every challenge, even a global pandemic, our students and teachers showed up for one another. That’s what makes Artemis Yoga so special.”
