Watertown’s Lit Squad is a cohort of writers who reside in Watertown and neighboring communities and who first gathered in 2021 to celebrate their word arts as part of the annual Watertown Arts Market.
Since then they have exhibited at each WAM with a sales booth for their works, a program of featured readings and open mic, and with a new edition of their POETS AND WRITERS SAMPLER, featuring brief samples of local writers’ works..
They’re now open to receive submissions for the 2026 edition. See announcement and guidelines below.
Watertown creative writers of all ages, abilities, and experiences, previously published or unpublished, may participate. They have an active Facebook page: @watertownlitsquad with regular postings of local literary news. Their steering committee includes Elizabeth Rodgers, Patrick Fairbairn, DeWitt Henry, Patti Cassidy, Laura Aversa, and Ricardo Alvarez, They have open discussion sessions at the Library on the second Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30, where local writers are welcome to join in.
They have had well attended reading programs at the Library, have taken part in the Library’s “Literary Tea,” and supported book launches and events involving writers of regional and national reputations.
Their chosen name “Lit Squad” partly suggests enlightenment, and partly Arsenal Park with its military history, the site of WAM.
They celebrate all Watertown writers, inspired by each other and by the remarkable community we share.
