The following announcement was provided by Light of Palestine:
On Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m., a star-studded ensemble will perform in Watertown’s second annual Light of Palestine concert. Proceeds will support Anera, a U.S.-based nonprofit with no political or religious affiliations. Anera provides humanitarian aid to families in Gaza.
Grammy-nominated Palestinian percussionist Tareq Rantisi is serving as artistic director. Originally from Jerusalem, Rantisi has assembled a world-class ensemble:
• 20-year-old star Layan Hawila, oud (lute) and vocals. Hawila is a resident of Haifa who is studying with Simon Shaheen at Berklee College of Music.
• Nay (reed flute) virtuoso Rami Abu Olaya, originally from Ramallah
• Jamal Sinno, master of the qanun (a trapezoid-shaped zither, plucked with the fingers)
Cellist and Watertown resident Alyssa Lawson is acting as a coordinator. “Last year we held a similar concert that was sold out and raised nearly $10,000 for humanitarian aid to Gaza. Since then, people have been asking me if we could do it again. We have new musicians who are going to make this a beautiful experience for all who attend.”
The concert will take place at First Parish of Watertown (35 Church Street). It will also be live streamed, and the video will remain available for seven days. Tickets are available at the following link: https://buytickets.at/lightofpalestine/1955786
