Schools, City Buildings Closed Monday Due to Snow Storm

The City of Watertown and the Watertown Public Schools announced closures on Monday due to the snow storm beginning Sunday and continuing into Monday, which could drop up to 2 feet of snow on the area. See details below.

Watertown Schools

The Watertown Public Schools will have a snow day for Monday, Jan. 26, according to the following announcement from the WPS website:

“With the snow expected to begin today, with 18–24 inches forecast by Monday. All Watertown Public Schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 26, due to unsafe travel conditions. Please stay warm and safe at home.”

City Facilities

On Friday, the City announced a snow emergency beginning at noon on Sunday and a one-day delay in trash and recycling collection. On Sunday, the City sent out more information about closings and the snow emergency. Multiple facilities will be closed Monday, including City Hall, the library, and the Senior Center. The City sent out the following statement:

The City of Watertown’s snow emergency goes into effect today, Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 12pm. The snow emergency remains in effect until further notice.

All on-street parking is strictly prohibited. Vehicles left on the street will receive a $100 fine and be subject to towing.

Please visit the winter parking ban page to learn of free off-street parking options during snow emergencies. If you have moved your car for Saturday’s overnight parking ban, you can continue to leave your car in those locations.

Sunday Closures

Due to the storm, the Watertown Free Public Library will be closed on Sunday, January 25. All Watertown Recreation programming is cancelled on Sunday. The John A. Ryan Arena will close at 3:30 PM.

Monday Closures

All Watertown municipal buildings are closed on Monday, January 26. This includes the below locations:

  • Watertown City Hall
  • Watertown Free Public Library
  • Watertown Public Schools
  • Watertown Senior Center (all programs cancelled)
  • Parker Building
  • Watertown Department of Public Works (DPW)
  • John A. Ryan Arena
  • All Watertown Recreation programs are cancelled

Trash & Recycling Reminder 

All trash and recycling is delayed one day in the coming week. Pickup will occur from Tuesday, January 27 through Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Friendly Snow Removal Reminder
As a reminder, property owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks after storms. Please help Watertown stay safe and accessible during the winter season, and please do not shovel snow into the street.
