Residents at The Residence at Watertown Square recently gained direct access to transportation resources during an on-site event featuring Sen. William Brownsberger, State Rep. Steven Owens, and representatives from the MBTA and its “The RIDE” program.

The Residence at Watertown Square offers a variety of transportation services to its residents, but is always striving to promote greater independence and mobility. For many older adults, navigating public transit options and application requirements can present a significant barrier to mobility and independence. To help address this challenge, Sen. Brownsberger’s team, Rep. Owens, and The RIDE partnered with The Residence at Watertown Square to bring additional transportation resources directly into the community, making it easier for residents to learn about and enroll in available programs.

During the event, Representative Owens and Senator Brownsberger provided an overview of transportation initiatives across the state, including current legislation and their ongoing efforts to improve accessibility. Residents also had the opportunity to engage directly with transit representatives, asking questions and receiving personalized guidance.

A key focus of the presentation was the MBTA’s Senior CharlieCard program, which offers reduced fares on public transportation, as well as The RIDE’s door-to-door paratransit services. In addition to learning about these options, residents were able to begin and complete applications on-site, streamlining what can often be a complex process.

“We had a great turnout from our residents, and it was incredibly valuable to connect them directly with the resources and officials who can help make transportation more accessible,” said Zachary Wilkins, Executive Director at The Residence at Watertown Square.

The event concluded with a casual social in the community’s bistro, where residents continued conversations with officials and transit representatives, many having already taken meaningful steps toward securing new transportation options.
