Watertown groups will host candidate nights for two races on the Sept. 1 State Primary ballot on Aug. 4 and 5. On Tuesday, the candidates for 10th Middlesex State Representative will appear on a live broadcast debate. The following night, the candidates for the 5th Congressional District have been invited to an online candidate forum. See details provided by the organizers, below.
10th Middlesex State Representative Candidate Debate
State Rep. John Lawn and challenger Alison Leary, who is a Newton City Councilor, will be in the Watertown Cable studio for the debate on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026 at 7 p.m. The moderator will be Watertown Cable Anchor Jim Vershbow.
The 10th Middlesex district includes parts of Watertown, Newton, and Waltham, including Watertown Precincts 9, 10, 11, and 12.
The debate will air live exclusively on WCA-TV’s Public Channel (Comcast 9 & RCN 3) and stream live worldwide at WCATV.org/Public. Full replays will be available on demand after each debate.

Attend our Candidates Forum on August 5 at 7 p.m. on Zoom to hear what they have to say and to ask them questions. The primary is Sept. 1. All 3 candidates have been invited. Both Jonathan Paz and Tarik Samman have accepted but at this time we have not heard from Katherine Clark so we assume she will not attend.
