Devaney Wins Race for Governor’s Council & All the Watertown Results from the State Primary

Watertown’s Marilyn Petitto Devaney prevailed Tuesday in a tough primary election for the District 3 Governor’s Councilor seat. Devaney will not face a Republican challenger in her bid for a 16th term on the Governor’s Council after defeating challenger Nick Carter of Newton. Devaney received 56 percent of the vote, districtwide, with 95 percent of the precincts counted. There Republicans have no candidate on the ballot for Governor’s Council District 3. Carter, an attorney, ran a well funded campaign and sent out several mailings to voters, while  Devaney, a former Watertown Town Councilor, self-funded her campaign.

Watertown Dog Park Reopens After Completion of Renovations

The Watertown Recreation Department announced that renovation work at the Howe Dog Park has been completed, and is now open. 

The dog park is located off Pleasant Street on Bacon Street. The Recreation Department sent out the following announcement:
The Howe Dog Park located at 62 Bacon Street is open. Please enjoy our new renovated amenity, but please follow all rules and regulations. Special thanks to our DPW Parks Department for their ongoing support of our recreational facilities. The rules of the dog park, according to the “Responsible Dog Ownership in Watertown” are:
The use of the Watertown Dog Park owned by Watertown is restricted to Watertown residents. The Watertown owned Dog Park is subject to the following rules, which are needed for the safe and lawful enjoyment of Watertown’s open space by everyone:
• Dogs must display current WATERTOWN DOG LICENSE at all times.

Watertown Biotech Building Sold for More Than $150 Million

The Linx Watertown building, the former home of a Verizon facility, has been sold for $157.6 million, according to a report on Banker and Tradesman. 

The property was sold by Boylston Properties, which redeveloped the site, to New York-based Clarion Partners, according to the Banker and Tradesman report. The site underwent major redevelopment since the project was approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals in July 2015. Linx Watertown is located at 490 Arsenal Way, sits off Arsenal Street and sits right near Nichols Avenue. The building is completely occupied by biotech firms: C4 Therapeutics, Macrolide Pharmaceuticals, Addgene, Aileron Therapeutics, and Kala Pharmaceuticals. Boylston Properties also owns Arsenal Yards – the redevelopment of the Arsenal Mall – and built the Residence Inn by Marriott on Arsenal Street.

Aug. 20, 3:02 p.m.: Officers checked on the welfare of a woman on Chestnut Street at Main Street and during a query they found she had three outstanding arrest warrants. The 37-year-old homeless woman was arrested on the two warrants from New Bedford District Court for assault and battery on a correctional officer and a default warrant from Boston District Court. Expect Delays on Main Street Due to Installation of Curbs, Crosswalk Improvements

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, Traffic on Main Street will likely be slowed due to construction of a new sidewalk and improvements to a crosswalk between the Watertown Library and the Post Office. The Department of Public Works announced details of the roadwork, which will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic will flow in both directions, but could be delayed by the roadwork. Also, one of the stops for the MBTA’s 70/70A bus will move down the street. The following information was provided by the Watertown Department of Public Works:

Please be informed that Daigle Electric will be performing construction work on Main Street at the crosswalk between the Post Office and Public Library as part of MassDOT Project 608540; (District 6 – Pedestrian and Bicycle Facility upgrades at various locations).

Massachusetts’ State Primary is on Tuesday, See Who is on the Ballot

The 2018 Massachusetts State Primary will be held on Sept. 4, the day after Labor Day. 

Democrats, Republicans and unenrolled voters who want to vote in either of the parties primaries will be able to vote from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The Democrats have several contested races, including governor, lieutenant governor and a race with a candidate from Watertown. The Republicans have four contested races, including three vying for U.S. Senator.
