WHS Sports: Wrestlers Qualify for States, Track League Meet & Hoops

The Watertown High School wrestling team continued its successful season by qualifying several athletes for the State Divisional Meet. 

Watertown had 12 wrestlers competing in the Div. 3 Central Section meet on Saturday at Ashland High School. Van Athanasopoulos was the highest finisher for there Raiders. He went 3-1 and won the third-place match in the 145 pound competition. He will compete in the Div.

See the Closings and Delays Due to Monday’s Snow Storm

As the snow storm stretches into the second day, and Watertown digs itself out the snow has caused some closings and delays. The Watertown Public Schools are closed Monday, and Monday’s School Committee meeting has been postponed. The meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Mosesian Arts Center announced that Monday night’s Jazz @ The Mosesian performance with Maggie Scott has been postponed. Also, all evening classes and voice lessons Monday have been cancelled.

More Snow on its Way for Watertown on Sunday and Monday

There’s no break from the snow for the Boston area, as the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday through most of Monday. Another 4 to 8 inches of snow could fall in Watertown beginning Sunday and lasting through Monday. The Winter Storm Watch lasts from 7 a.m. Sunday morning through Monday at 7 p.m.

WCVB Channel 5 forecast calls for the snow possibly turning to rain before going back to snow on Sunday. The snow to start falling steadily Sunday afternoon and the heaviest snowfall on Monday. Areas north and west of Boston will get more snow, while the Cape and Southeast Mass.

Medical Marijuana Dispensary Moves a Step Closer to Approval

A proposed medical marijuana dispensary in the East End of Watertown cleared one hurdle Tuesday night and now moves on to the Town Council for consideration. The dispensary proposed by NS AJO Inc., also called Natural Selections, would be at 23 Elm Street in a building behind A-Affordable Auto Insurance. On Tuesday, the Council’s Economic Development and Planning subcommittee voted to send the application to the full Town Council to be considered for a letter of support or non-opposition. The application would still need the approval of the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals. The applicant agreed to a host agreement with the Town to pay $200,000 or 6 percent of their gross revenue, whichever is higher, annually.
