Commander’s Mansion’s Annual Wedding Showcase Expands to Other Events

This year, the Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion will again host the Annual Wedding Showcase, but this year the event has been expanded to include other events hosted by the historic home. The Showcase will take place on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5 from 1-4 p.m. each day. Different vendors will be featured each day. Tammy McKenna, facilities manager at the Commander’s Mansion, said the home has not only been a favorite venue for weddings but for all kinds of events, so the expansion of the showcase was a natural one. It can accommodate up to 200 guests.

Watertown Boys Basketball Pulls Out 14th Win Over Stoneham

The Raiders mounted a fourth quarter comeback to defeat a pesky Stoneham team 46-43 win Tuesday night. 

Watertown jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead. Then Stoneham chipped at the lead, narrowing the margin to four at halftime and took a 35-29 lead into the fourth quarter. The Raiders comeback was lead by guard Julio Fulcar, who scored seven of his 16 points in the final period. Stoneham held center John Korte to 13 points, including five in the fourth quarter. The junior is Watertown’s top scorer and lead the Middlesex League in scoring though 14 games with 23 points per game.

Police Log: Man Caught Breaking into Cars at Library, Apartment Broken Into

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrest
Jan. 31, 6:10 p.m.: A witness reported seeing a man walking up to vehicles in the parking lot behind the Watertown Free Public Library and trying to open their doors. Police found a man fitting the description of the suspect in the library and spoke with him. The suspect said he thought it was his friend’s car and when he opened the door there was someone inside.

Nor’easter Could Dump a Foot of Snow on Watertown Thursday

The National Weather Service warns that a major snow storm is heading toward the Boston area Wednesday evening through Thursday, and as much as a foot of snow could fall on Watertown. A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect from 10 p.m. on Wednesday through Thursday and ending in the early hours of Friday morning. The heavy snowfall could impact both commutes. Snowfall could be from 8 to 12 inches, according to the NWS. WBZ Channel 4’s weather report says there could be as much as 14 inches in the Boston area.

Watertown Fire Department Rolls Out Paramedic Services for the First Time

After a simple ceremony, which included a priest’s blessing, the call went out from the Watertown Fire Headquarters, “Medic 1 now is service.” While the celebration was a quiet one, but the change is a major one for the Watertown Fire Department and the people of the town. For the first time, paramedic services will be provided by Watertown firefighters in ambulances based in Watertown. This will mean quicker response times to medical emergencies because private companies would often send ambulances based in surrounding communities to cover calls in Watertown. The town will also be able to collect fees charged for ambulance service, which had gone to the ambulance companies.

Town Capital Plan Calls for Park Improvements, School Renovations and Many Vehicles

Town officials have a list of major projects and purchases for the next five years, including funds for improvement to parks, to purchase more than a dozen vehicles, and plans for school renovations but no funding sources for the school projects, yet. The proposed Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for Fiscal Years 2018-22 includes $368.3 million, with $20 million planned for FY 2018 (the fiscal year that runs from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018). In addition, $24 million has been proposed in projects from the Water and Sewer Enterprise Funds. See the entire CIP proposal here. The CIP includes $204 million for renovation and/or reconstruction of schools.

Get Ready for the Patriots Victory Parade and Some Wintery Weather

The New England Patriots will celebrate their amazing comeback win in Super Bowl LI with a parade in Boston on Tuesday. 

Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady and the rest of the team will ride the duck boats beginning at 11 a.m. in the Back Bay. According to NECN, the route will take the team down Boylston Street starting at Dalton Street, turn left onto Tremont Street and end at City Hall. Fans should expect a wintery mix of rain and snow Tuesday, WBZ Channel 4 reports. Boston is forecast to get an inch or less of snow, which is likely to be washed away by the rain.
