Watertown Art Gallery Hosting Opening Reception for Newest Exhibit

Watertown art gallery Room 83 Spring will host an opening reception for its latest exhibit, which features three artists. 

The exhibit runs through April 30 and a reception will he held Saturday, March 12 from 5-7 p.m. The gallery, locate at 83 Spring St. in Watertown, is open Thursdays 3-7 p.m., Saturdays 12-4 p.m. and anytime by appointment. Watertown Girls Basketball Team Heading to 4th Straight North Section Final

WAKEFIELD – The Watertown girls basketball team had to be on its game to defeat Triton Regional. The Raiders prevailed 43-29 in the MIAA Div. 2 North Section semifinal Wendesday night in Wakefield. The normally high scoring Raiders (19-3) were held to 16 points in the first half, but still held a six point lead. In the second half, Triton stayed within reach of Watertown.

Town Council Decides How to Fill Vacancy on Library Board of Trustees

One of the Library Trustees announced she will step down from the board, and the Town Council had its choice of ways to fill the vacancy. Tuesday night, Town Council President Mark Sideris said the Council could call a special election to fill the seat, left open when Gracemarie LeBlanc resigned. They could also allow the other Trustees to work with Sideris to appoint a new member. Sideris recommended that the town not call a special election to fill just one spot on the Library Trustees. Instead, the Trustees would put out a call for applicants to fill the spot.

Watertown Players Play Big Role in Winning Youth Hockey State Title

Four young hockey players from Watertown helped the Waltham Youth Hockey Bantam team win the state championship last weekend. The Waltham Bantam C team defeated another team from Waltham in the final of the Massachusetts Bantam Tier 4 State Championship held in Waltham, said head coach Jay Ferraro. “We have had an influx many Watertown kids into Waltham Hockey, and the program has gotten really strong,” Ferraro said. “A lot of that is because of kids from Watertown.” The top line included three Watertown skaters – Keith Ricci, Matt Tardiff and Jordan Landani – and Sean Donohue also played a part in the state championship.

The Watertown Public Schools announced the accreditation visit of Watertown High School beginning Sunday, March 13, as well as the timeline for appointing a new Director of Special Education. The Watertown Public Schools sent out the following announcements:
Accreditation Visit of Watertown High School
Sixteen educators will conduct an on-site accreditation visit of Watertown High School from March 13-16. The accreditation visit will be conducted under the direction of the Committee on Public Secondary Schools of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The purpose of this accreditation visit is to review and determine from an outside professional viewpoint the extent to which the school is meeting NEASC’s Standards for Accreditation. As part of the evaluation, the visiting committee will:

Attend a welcome presentation intended to provide an overview of Watertown and Watertown High School, presented by teachers and students
Meet with school committee members
Meet with parents
Meet with teachers
Meet with students
Meet with administrators and curriculum coordinators
Shadow students during the school day
Review samples of student work
Visit classes
Review the school’s self-study

The members of the visiting committee are teachers and administrators from a variety of schools throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Watertown Man Finalist in National Weight-Loss Contest

A Watertown man is a finalist in a weight-loss contest where the prize is a vacation and you can vote for him. Medi-Weightloss sent out the following information:

Mike Lynch, of Watertown, is a finalist in the Medi-Weightloss 2016 Transformation Vacation Giveaway! The annual contest allows patients from over 80 locations across the country to submit their before and after pictures along with an inspirational story describing their weight loss journey. The top ten finalists were selected from nearly 50 entries nationwide based not only on their successful weight loss, but also on the motivational aspect of their personal transformation.
