Erika Kelly Ends College Field Hockey Career With A Number of Honors

Stonehill College senior and All-America forward Erika Kelly, of Watertown, has collected two more Player of the Year honors as the postseason awards season for field hockey is in full swing, according to Stonehill College Athletics. Kelly, who became the Stonehill field hockey’s first Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year this season, has been named the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II East Region Player of the Year for the second straight year, and has also collected Division II Offensive Player of the Year honors from Synapse Sports for the first time. Kelly was the first Stonehill field hockey player to collect regional player of the year honors when she was named the award recipient as a junior. Kelly, the first three-time first team All-American in program history, is also one of two student-athletes in program history to collect first team All-NE-10 honors three years. She was the top scorer in Division II this fall with 65 points, scoring a Division II high 27 goals to go with 11 assists to rank third nationally.

Watertown School Committee Says Goodbye to Two Members

The two School Committee members who served their last meeting on Monday may have only served one term, but their colleagues made it clear they will be greatly missed. Julie McMahon and Michael Shepard have made some major contributions over their four years on the board, said School Committee Chairwoman Eileen Hsu-Balzer. “Julie is enthusiastic, insightful and empathetic. She does the difficult work behind the scene and lets others have the face time,” Hsu-Balzer said. “Mike is a relentless worker on the Building and Grounds and Budget and Finance subcommittees.

Watertown Softball Heads Indoor to Play Ball During Winter

Stormy weather does not keep the Watertown Youth Softball players from getting in some games.

Indoor Softball season is underway and our 14U and 16U Raiders are off to a great start. The 14U club currently stands at 2-1 while the 16U gals are holding onto a 3-1 record. The 14U Winter Raiders are Haley Bass, Jacquie Furbish, Stella Papadopoulos, Alyssa Carroll, Amelia Doyle, Christine Zhu, Molly Egan and Gianna Sciarappa. Missing from the photo is Knar Krafian, Grace Shanley and Mairead Walsh.
