Every Tuesday in February you can dine out and a portion of your purchase will go to help the Watertown Youth Coalition. Not Your Average Joe’s in Watertown will donate 15 percent of your total purchase on Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24 to the WYC. This excludes alcohol, tax and gratuity. “We serve creative cuisine.

Watertown Real Estate Agency Holding Food Drive

Century 21 Commonwealth in Watertown is holding a food drive this month to help people in town. The drive will run from Feb. 8 through Feb. 21. “We are collecting non-perishable foods, paper goods and other needed items to benefit the Food Pantries in Watertown,” said the announcement from Century 21 Commonwealth.

Police Log: Man Steal Beat Headphones, 2 OUI Arrests

Jan. 19, 1:56 p.m.: An officer served a warrant out of Middlesex Superior Court for probation violation, and arrested a 29-year-old Watertown man. Jan. 20, 3:32 a.m.: An officer patrolling on Melendy Avenue spotted a car stopped with its hazard lights on.

See What’s Opened and Closed During the Snow Storm

Monday’s snow storm has caused some closings, but other places are open, including places to grab Patriots Super Bowl championship gear! The Watertown Public Schools are closed Monday due to the storm that could leave a foot or more of snow in Watertown. Monday’s School Committee meeting has been postponed until Feb. 9. Kids – and their parents – will still have a chance to grab their Super Bowl champs hats, T-shirts and more at the Arsenal Project to get ready for the Patriots parade at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Snow Causes Watertown Parking Ban, Closing of Schools

The storm which could drop 8-16 inches of snow on Watertown heading has prompted a parking ban in Watertown and closing of the public schools. 

The snow emergency parking ban begins at midnight on Monday and lasts until further notice. Cars may be parked at the Watertown Police Station, in the public school parking lots and at municipal lots. The Watertown Public Schools will be closed Monday, according to the closing announcements on WCVB’s website. Trash and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day, so Monday pickups will happen Tuesday, Tuesday pickup will be Wednesday, etc.

WHS Students Hold Vigil for Classmate Who Took His Own Life

Saturday afternoon, group of Watertown High School students gathered at Victory Field and exchanged hugs, attempted to light candles in a frigid wind and remembered their classmate who ended his life a week ago. 

The 40 or so students, parents, and others held a candle light vigil next to the court where their friend, Adonis, used to spend afternoons playing basketball. They huddled together, stunned and saddened by the suicide of their friend and classmate. The vigil was organized by WHS students who spread the word over Facebook. Fellow WHS sophomore Abraham Fuentes remembered Adonis as a happy guy who always had a smile. But he also struggled with depression.

Yoga Classes for Children Beginning Soon at Local Studio

Many adults have learned the benefits of yoga, and now a local studio will provide classes for children. The Om Namo Center, 21 Belmont St. in Cambridge (just over the line from Watertown) will run Kids Yoga with Ali Sager from Feb. 2-25. “Research has found that yoga for kids boosts concentration, confidence, and overall mental well-being, while also increasing physical flexibility, balance, and strength.

Another Bout of Snow Heading Toward Watertown

Even as the Boston area digs out from Tuesday’s blizzard, another significant snow is heading toward the Hub. 

Watertown could get 8 to 12 inches from a storm coming through the area. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch from 7 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. on Wednesday. Snowfall will begin after midnight on Monday and be heaviest during the day on Monday. Winds will be 9-18 mph. The storm could cause hazardous driving conditions and snow drifts.
