Registration Open for Watertown Recreation’s Wachusett Ski & Snow Board Program

The Watertown Department announced that registration has opened for the Wachusett Mountain ski and snowboard program. A bus runs from Watertown to the ski area on Saturdays in early 2024. The following information came from Watertown Recreation:

Who:    Grades 6 – 12

When:  Saturday Evenings

             January 6th – February 10, 2024 (Once a week for six weeks)

Time:    4:00 – 11:00 pm

Where:  Bus leaves at 4:00 pm, SHARP, from the temporary Watertown High School parking lot, 27 Westminster Ave. Fees:   Register online with Wachusett Mountain at their website www.wachusett.com/schoolgroups for lift ticket, equipment, and lessons. Registration starts on 10/26/23 and ends on 12/15/23.

Early In-Person Voting Taking Place in Watertown This Week

The City of Watertown sent out the following announcement:

In-Person Early Voting for the Watertown Municipal Election will be held at City Hall located at 149 Main Street, Watertown in the Philip Pane Lower Hearing Room on the ground floor on the following dates and hours:

Tuesday, October 31, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Run, Walk or Bike to Raise Money for Helen Robinson Wright Fund

Utility Work on Common Street for High School Starts Monday

The project managers for the Watertown High School construction project announced that lanes will be closed on Common Street for utility work beginning Monday. The section impacted will be from Columbia Street past Spring Street and Marion Road. The following announcement was provided by Vertex, the owner’s project manager for the WHS project. “Progress associated with the Underground Utility Work surrounding the High School Project Site has been advancing steadily. Work along Common Street has been coordinated to begin today.

Watertown Youth Coalition to Present Youth Risk Behavior Survey Results

The following announcement was provided by the Wayside Youth & Family Support Network:

Join Watertown community members & stakeholders to review the 2023 YRBS data & strategize how to best-support Watertown youth moving forward. Wayside and Watertown Youth Coalition staff, with the help of Watertown City Council members, Watertown School administration and staff will review the 2023 Watertown Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) data in order to strategize youth wellness programing in Watertown. Discussions and activities will be run by WYC Peer Leaders who will also provide their own testimonials and opinions on the data. The event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at Lowell Elementary School, 175 Orchard St., Watertown.

Watertown Shows Off Its Talent at Community Foundation Event

The second annual Watertown’s Got Talent drew singers, dancers, and musicians of all ages this week. The Oct. 24 event raises money for the Watertown Community Foundation and was held at a stage on the River Green at Arsenal Yards. And the winners are ….

I prefix my comments by saying, without any hesitation, the Planning Department must be re organized. It is my firm belief the Department is misleading the citizens of Watertown. The change must begin at the top. I am not saying the Assistant City Manager/Director of Planning and Development should be fired; however, the Buck ends with this position. My recommendation is he should be laterally transferred into a different position within the administration.
