Watertown Rotary Club Invites Public to Holiday Mixer & Toy Drive

The Rotary Club of Watertown is excited to announce that it will be hosting a Community Holiday Mixer and Toy Drive! The event will be held at the Hampton Inn and Suites Boston/Watertown on Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

In the spirit of Rotary’s mantra “service before self,” the club is pleased to announce that it will be collecting unwrapped toys for the Sonny Whooley Foundation in cooperation Lexus and Toyota of Watertown. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, the proceeds of which will directly support the clubs community service initiatives in the coming year.  

Members of the greater Watertown business, philanthropic, and civic communities are invited to join us for an evening of connection, conversation, and celebration as we kick off the holiday season and raise a toast to our community.  

Attendees should plan to bring an unwrapped toy for the Whooley Foundation, but the event is otherwise free of charge. Complimentary beer, wine, soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres will we served. 

The Hampton Inn is located at 25 Bond St., Watertown, in Arsenal Yards.

Armenian Museum Releases Music from ’40s & ’50s, Hosting Christmas Gallery Stroll

The Sound Archive presents digitized versions of 78 rpm records from our collection. This month we are featuring record distributor Hrand Markar Tashjian. Tashjian was a trailblazer, taking matters into his own hands when Armenian music was almost impossible to get your hands on in the 1940s and 50s. He reissued out of print recordings from major labels on a series of his own imprints. This month’s post includes four digitized and restored songs: Yaylouges Gorav, Siroung Groung, Amen Hayr Sourp, and Vart. Special thanks to the SJS Charitable Foundation for their generous support of our work to digitize and share our collection of 78 rpm records.

Arsenal Yards Hosting Holiday Happenings, Selling Christmas Trees

Arsenal Yards will be selling Christmas trees during the holidays. The following information was provided by Arsenal Yards:

Arsenal Yards, the thriving new neighborhood in Watertown, invites area residents, workers, and visitors to sleigh the season and enjoy holiday happenings now through the end of the year. With a plethora of events and activations, including the launch of a *new* Christmas Tree Farm pop-up by Brewer Christmas Tree Farm in Bond Square – along with plentiful opportunities to give back to the Watertown community, guests can enjoy a packed schedule of seasonal activities and entertainment. The festivities will kick off on Black Friday, November 25th with the unveiling of the pop-up Brewer’s Christmas Tree Farm in Bond Sq, where guests can immerse themselves in a forest of fresh, beautiful balsam-fraser hybrid fir trees and pick out the perfect one.

Turtle Studios Artists Hosting Winter Open Studios

Turtle Studios’ Winter Open House is slated for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3 and 4 from noon to 5 p.m.

The studio was formerly located in Watertown, and now is located nearby at 213 California St. in Newton. The artists create a range of works, including: paintings, drawings, sculptures, fiber arts, basketweaving, photography, mixed media. There will also be invited artisans and crafters.

Road Work on Belmont St. Will Impact Some Watertown Residents

The following information was provided by the Watertown Department of Public Works:

As part of the Belmont Street Reconstruction Project, the City of Cambridge’s contractor, Newport Construction, will begin mobilizing in the coming weeks

Newport will begin installing tree protection along the street, performing survey and layout work, saw-cutting areas of the roadway and delivering and install of drainage structures. DigSafe markings will also begin appearing on the sidewalk and roadways. Following drainage work, weather permitting, Newport will begin the installation of the Cambridge water main along Belmont Street between the Belmont Town Line and Mt. Auburn Street. Cambridge residents of Belmont Street will receive a notice with specific details regarding this work.
