Share Your Photos and Stories With as Part of the Watertown Library’s Local History Project

The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Library:

The Watertown Free Public Library’s Local History Collection includes photographs and artifacts dating back to the city’s founding, but there is a problem — there exists very little record of what happened in Watertown during your lifetime. That’s why the Watertown Free Public Library (WFPL) is embarking on a mission to collect stories and images from Watertown’s recent history, from 1950 to the present day, to preserve them in the Local History Collection. “When people in the future try to figure out what happened in Watertown in the 1980s, 90s, or recently, what will they find?” asks Local History Librarian Caroline Littlewood. “That’s up to us. We are experts on our own experiences, and our own personal histories.

See What Small Saves Dreams About in This Week’s Cartoon

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Charles River Chamber Teaming With Local Restaurants to Provide Food Assistance, Resources for Eateries

The following announcement was provided by the Charles River Chamber:

Food Assistance Grant Program – Applications Now Open

The chamber has received funding to support independent Watertown restaurants while providing food assistance to local residents in need. We’ll be ordering individually packaged meals from restaurant partners (at a flat rate of $20 per meal plus tax) to distribute to local food pantries, senior and family programs and other persons in need within the city. Right now, we’re gauging interest and potential meal offerings (that would be both well balanced, but also profitable for your restaurant) via this Restauarnt Partner Application Form. After you are approved as a restaurant partner, we’ll reach out with more specifics as to individual order dates, quantities, etc. The program will launch late March, extend at least through the spring and we hope to support as many Watertown restaurants as possible through this initiative.
