Three Watertown Artists Featured in Three Local Exhibitions

Three members of the Watertown Art Association will have their work shown in exhibitions around the area.

Oakley Country Club Renovating Clubhouse, Pool With Financing from Local Bank

Belmont Savings Bank has announced the ground breaking to renovate the clubhouse and pool for Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts. Belmont Savings is the sole lender, providing a $10,400,000 loan. The Oakley Country Club is a private 18-hole golf club, which was founded in 1898. The renovated space is slated to open in Spring 2019. The main clubhouse is undergoing a complete renovation which will include a new pool complex, an expanded front entry, and outside decking to showcase the views of the Boston skyline.

CatholicTV Network Announces Initiative in Response to the Church’s Sexual Abuse Crisis

The following information was provided by CatholicTV Network:
The CatholicTV Network announced today its launch of a 6-month initiative called Together We Rebuild in response to the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. From now until Easter Sunday, 2019, CatholicTV will focus on penance and prayer for the healing and restoration of the Church. Each month of the campaign will be guided by a theme related to rebuilding and will include corresponding programming and resources such as video series, blogs, magazine articles, and social media initiatives. On November 11, CatholicTV and its viewers will begin a Novena of Penance and Prayer for the healing of abuse victims and the purification of the Church. Those nine days of prayer will culminate in a 12-hour Day of Penance and Prayer broadcast live from CatholicTV’s Chapel of the Holy Cross on November 19.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Hosting Kids Night Out

The following information came from the Watertown Boys & Girls Club:

The Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host another “Kids Night Out” event on Friday, Nov. 16 from 6-8 p.m.

Kids can be dropped off at the Club and they will enjoy a night of fun and creativity with art teacher, Melissa Epps, that includes painting, music, pizza and more. The event is open to children ages 7 to 12. Pre-registration cost: $10 per child (by Nov. 16 at 5 p.m.) or $15.00 per child at the door.

Perkins School Earns Special Status with United Nations Economic and Social Council

Perkins School for the Blind, the first school for the blind in the U.S. and the international leader in blindness education, has earned United Nations Economic and Social Council Special Consultative Status (ECOSOC).  
This enables Perkins executives to attend meetings at the UN, submit written statements and oral presentations, consult with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, and use UN facilities for conferences or meetings in New York, Geneva, and Vienna. The United Nations Economic and Social Council is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. It is the central platform for fostering debate and innovative thinking, forging consensus on ways forward, and coordinating efforts to achieve internationally agreed goals. It is also responsible for the follow-up to major UN conferences and summits.

Restaurant Slated for Arsenal Yards will Bring a Taste of Hawaii to Watertown
