Musicians Wanted for Annual Friends of Watertown Music’s MusicFest

The Friends of Watertown Music will host its annual fundraiser, MusicFest, in early April and the group seeks performers to take part. The event will be from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on April 6, 2018, at Watertown Middle School, 68 Waverley Ave., Watertown. Suggested donations are $8 per person or $25 for a family. There will also be pizza, refreshments and a bake sale. The event has raised more than $20,000 to support the music program in the Watertown Public Schools.for more information go to Watertownmusic.org.

CatholicTV Broadcasting Services Live on Easter & Days Leading Up to the Holiday

The Catholic Church begins the Easter Triduum on the evening of Holy Thursday, March 29. In observance of these holy days, the CatholicTV Network will broadcast special Masses and services from across the United States and from the Vatican. We invite you to join us in contemplating the Paschal mystery and praying throughout these sacred days leading up to Easter. 
CatholicTV’s coverage begins with the Vatican Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday, during which Pope Francis will bless the sacramental oils for the coming year. The Mass will air live at 3:30 a.m. ET and rebroadcast at 3 p.m. ET. Pope Francis will celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper live on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET.

OBIT: Anne Crimmins, 98, Worked in Rec Department for 44 Years, Loved Adventure

A Funeral Mass for Anne Rose (Burns) Crimmins will be celebrated in St. Luke’s
Church, Belmont on Wednesday March 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Crimmins, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Flynn) Crimmins passed
away in her home after a short illness on Saturday March 24, 2018. She was 98. Anne was born and went to Catholic Schools in Somerville, graduating with the class of 1938. A long time resident of Watertown.

Watertown Boy Scouts Hosting Car Wash Fundraiser in April

Watertown Boy Scouts will host a car wash and a chance to learn about being a scout in April. The Scouts sent out the following information:

Troop 30 is holding its first car wash of the season on April 14, from 12:30-4 p.m. Get winter scrubbed off your car by a real Boy Scout at 80 Mt. Auburn St. (the United Methodist Church across from Starbucks). Donations will be used to fund scouting activities including conservation, camping and life-skill building.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club Running Lifeguard Certification Class

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host a lifeguard certification class Tuesday, April 17 to Friday, April 20, 2018. Lifeguards that need a re-certification only need to attend Friday’s session. The class will run from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and is open to anyone who meets the following criteria:
• 15 years old on the first day of class (4/17/18)
• Can swim 300 yards continuously
• Can tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
• Can complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds, (swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 – 10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface and swim 20 yards on back to return to starting point, exit water without ladder or steps)
Full certification cost: $275.00 for Club members, $325.00 for non-members
Re-certification cost: $75.00

Youth Coalition Hosting Forum on the Well-Being of Watertown Youth

The Watertown Youth Coalition will host its 2018 Town Hall Meeting on “The Well-Being of Watertown Youth” on April 11, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library. 

The WYC provided the following information. How well are Watertown youth doing with regard to their health and well-being? COME JOIN US for a presentation and discussion of the most recent Watertown Youth Risk Behavior Survey results. Hear the perspectives of youth and other experts in the field, and contribute to the discussion about how to sustain and increase what’s positive for youth and families in Watertown. Light refreshments will be served.

Mosesian Center Hosting Rock & Roll Celebration with Art Show, Gala

The Mosesian Center for the Arts will host Art & Soul, with a gala featuring an acclaimed Rock & Roll historian, a concert and a BBQ dinner to go along with an art exhibit featuring portraits of rock musicians. Gala
On Thursday, April 12th, The Mosesian Center for the Arts will honor Peter Guralnick, Rock ‘n’ Roll historian extraordinaire and acclaimed author, known for his prize-winning two-volume biography of Elvis Presley, Last Train to Memphis and his most recent biography, Sam Phillips: The Man who invented Rock ’n’ Roll. The evening’s Rock ‘n’ Roll celebration – Art & Soul, a fundraiser for the Mosesian Center for the Arts (MCA) kicks off with a Memphis-style BBQ dinner followed by a spirited conversation with Guralnick and storied writer, and editor Mark Feeney, followed by a Rock ‘n’ Soul Revue featuring Giant Kings with Special Guests Barrence Whitfield, Dennis Brennan, Andrea Gillis, and Jesse Dee!
