Mental Illness Support Group Meets This Month in Wellesley

The National Alliance for Mental Illness will host a free support group for family, caregivers and loved ones of people living with mental illness. Mental Illness support group:  NAMI Family Support Group is a free, structured, confidential peer-led support group for family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness.  The support group will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 7:30 – 9 pm in the Board Room of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church at 207 Washington St. in Wellesley. This is organized by the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).

CatholicTV Show ‘The Lens’ Focuses on Refugees, Airs Monday

On Monday, February 6 at 9 p.m., Watertown-based CatholicTV will broadcast a special episode of The Lens focused on refugees, the network announced. The Lens, hosted by Matt Weber, is an interactive, socially engaging series that looks at what’s trending through a faith-based lens. This week, in light of recent events, Weber looks at the issues that refugees face in the United States today. This week’s episode features special guest Laith, a Refugee Case Manager working for Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Boston. Laith is a refugee from Iraq who now works to help new refugees in the Boston area.

Boys and Girls Can Join Cops and Rec Indoor Soccer Program

The Watertown Police Department and the Recreation Department team up to put on the Cops and Rec Futsal program for middle school girls and boys, the Recreation Department announced. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. This indoor soccer is fast paced and great for the winter session. The first week we will teach the game and then make teams for the remainder of the weeks. The focus of the program is to provide a fun, positive atmosphere while teaching the game of Indoor Soccer and the excitement of being a part of a team.

Watertown Mall Hosting Valentines Event With Watertown Family Network

Share Your Love with the Watertown Family Network at the Watertown Mall on Wednesday, February 8 at 11 a.m.! Join the Watertown Family Network for Valentine making, stories, songs and crafts! There will also be valentines available to be sent over to our friends at Brigham House Assisted Residence, Mall officials announced. All supplies will be provided. The Watertown Family Network is a grant-funded program of the Massachusetts Department of Education and care run through the Watertown Public Schools.

Watertown-Belmont Chamber Leaving Office, Space Up for Lease

After 12 years of sharing the space with the H&K Insurance Agency and Mavor Chiropractic, the Watertown-Belmont Chamber of Commerce has decided to vacate their space in the two-story office building on 182 Main Street, according to the building owners. H&K Insurance, which subleases the offices, is now looking for a new business partner to join them. The 1,300 square feet office space comes with two dedicated parking spaces as well as meter street parking. The space is available starting February 1. “We’ve had great a great relationship with the Chamber of Commerce since we became members over 35 years ago in 1980,” said Brian Kilcoyne, CISR, CIC and President of H&K Insurance.

Belmont Savings Gives Gift to Watertown Eduction Foundation During Spelling Bee

Belmont Savings Bank presented the Watertown Education Foundation (WEF) with a $2,750 check during the annual Town Wide Spelling Bee, the bank announced. The money was provided by the Watertown Education Rewards Checking account. For every new Watertown Education Rewards Checking account opened through Belmont Savings, the bank gives both the WEF and the account owner $50, and .25% annual interest on the average monthly balance in the account is put toward school programs.

Founded in 1990 by engaged citizens of Watertown, the WEF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting improvements in the town’s education system by assisting school programs and encouraging support from citizens and businesses of Watertown.
