OBIT: Sandra Flynn, 77, Worked as Nurse, Love Spending Time with Her Family

Prayer Services for Sandra A. Flynn will be held in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 7 p.m.

Sandra was the daughter of the late Lena LaLibertie and Alfred Baylies. Sandra died in her home in Watertown, on Sunday morning at the age of 77. Sandra was born in New Bedford and worked diligently in her life as a nurse at various nursing homes in Massachusetts. She loved spending time with her family; her children, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren, and also with her dear companion, Nick. Sandra was Nick’s Angel.

Concert Featuring Sally Rogers, Howie Bursen Benefits Watertown Group

Nationally known singer-songwriters Sally Rogers and Howie Bursen will appear in concert Saturday, April 2 at 8 p.m. The concert is sponsored jointly by First Parish Watertown Unitarian-Universalist and the Folk Song Society of Greater Boston. All profits will benefit the Helen Robinson Wright Charitable Fund, which provides Watertown residents with short-term aid in emergency situations. Concert admission is $25, with tickets on sale at the door or online at BrownPaperTickets.com. Sale of light refreshments will also benefit the Wright Fund. Researcher to Discuss His Study of the Catholic Cemetery at Mt. Auburn

The Historical Society of Watertown Presents Documenting Sand Banks Cemetery in Watertown’s East End by Bill McEvoy on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library, Watertown Savings Bank Meeting Room

The Historical Society sent out the following information:

After four years of research, Bill McEvoy’s research of the Catholic Mount Auburn Cemetery (also called Sand Banks Cemetery and Cottage Street Cemetery) is complete. Sand Banks Cemetery, a less than 7-acre parcel, is owned by and receives minimal care from the Archdiocese of Boston. The cemetery has many exquisite and finely carved monuments erected to residents from all walks of life. Not all of the graves are marked and many of the monuments are weathered and in need of repair. Many have fallen face up/down and others are in danger of falling.

Alzheimer’s Association Hosts Memory Loss Workshop, Research Forum

The Alzheimber’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire, will hold two events in March. 
Memory Loss Workshop
The Alzheimer’s Association will offer a free workshop, Coping with Early Memory Loss, on Thursday, March 24 from 1-3 p.m. at the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown

The workshop is for those recently diagnosed with memory loss, their families and friends. It’s designed to help participants better understand diagnoses of mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontal-temporal dementia and related disorders. Get Free Mental Health First Aid Training from Wayside Multi Service Center

Wayside Youth and Family Support Network will present a free youth mental health first aid training for Watertown residents. Wayside sent out the following announcement:

Sometimes, first aid isn’t a bandage or CPR. Sometimes, first aid is YOU! A young person you know could be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis… You can help them. You are more likely to encounter someone — friend, family member, student, neighbor, or member of the community — in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack.

Easter Bunny, Irish Dancers Coming to the Watertown Mall

The Watertown Mall is hosting a couple of events to celebrate Easter and St. Patrick’s Day. 

The Mall sent out the following information:

Come to the enchanted village and see the Easter Bunny for yourself. Photographs with the Easter Bunny will be available at the Watertown Mall’s Easter Village, located near Carter’s. Hours of operation are 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Thursdays- Saturdays and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. The Easter Bunny Village will be open on the following dates: March 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25 and 26. Please note that the Easter Bunny goes to lunch from 2-3 p.m. each day.

Old Country Buffet Has Closed, Items Being Auctioned Off

The Old Country Buffet at the Watertown Mall has closed as part of a nationwide closure, and the remaining assets at the restaurant will be auctioned off by Auction Nation. Auction Nation sent out the following announcement:

Old Country Buffet has been a local favorite in Watertown for many years, and unfortunately, this week it has closed its doors for good.
