“I’m excited to support Daniel Lander’s candidacy for State Senate and his commitment to challenging the status quo. Now more than ever, we need leaders who can empathize with the struggles that our communities and neighbors are facing. His background in community organizing gives me confidence that he will faithfully represent the voices of his constituents,” said Sheila Krishnan, Watertown School Committee Member.

“Daniel Lander is a true progressive with clear positions on issues like workers’ rights, immigrant safety, and lowering healthcare, housing and transportation costs. He is for the people and undeterred by the political gridlock that holds us back in Massachusetts. As a public school educator, I’m excited to vote for Daniel in the democratic primary on September 1st. I have no doubt that he will advocate and coalition-build effectively to catalyze the major reforms that people want and need in Watertown and beyond,” said Lisa Capoccia, Watertown School Committee Member.

“After seven years of calling Watertown home, I’ve built deep connections with neighbors from all walks of life — and it’s heartbreaking to see so many of them struggling more each day, regardless of their background or how long they’ve been here. It’s clear the current system isn’t working for most working-class families,” said Xin Peng, Elected Watertown Library Board Member and Community Activist. “That’s why I support Daniel Lander—because we need leadership that is imaginative, innovative, and, above all, proactive in turning ideas into real action for our community.”

“I’m proud to support Daniel Lander because he understands the issues facing Watertown. So many members of our community are struggling with rising costs, housing insecurity, and the pressure of making ends meet. We need a State Senator who will fight for working people and a State Senator who will truly listen to them. Daniel is that leader,” said Will Pennington, former Chair of the Watertown Democrats.

“I am happy to announce my support for Daniel Lander. As a 36-year veteran public school educator and past president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), I can confidently say that Daniel Lander is the candidate for working families in the district.Daniel Lander has a proven record of supporting workers, both unionized and those who aren’t represented by unions, including those at the State House, and public policy that supports a Common Good agenda. He understands that power of workers and communities to improve their lives comes from their ability to collectively organize,” said Merrie Najimy, veteran public school educator, and prior president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

“Daniel Lander knows the State must act urgently to address the shortage of housing for low- and middle-income households. He believes we can’t rely on the private market alone to meet this need — and he has spent his career fighting for solutions like Transfer Fees and for State laws and incentives that enable City-nonprofit project partnerships to build mixed-income housing. Daniel also recognizes the strong public demand for more housing, especially for below market rate options, and will join with other legislators to push for a variety of proven solutions,” said Watertown Community Activist Jacky vanLeeuwen.

Daniel Lander will host a Watertown campaign kickoff at Ritcey East on May 9th at 12:00. Members of the community can RSVP here.

Daniel Lander is running for the State Senate to take on the broken status quo and make Beacon Hill work for the people. He grew up in this district, and has worked alongside progressive leaders like Senator Elizabeth Warren, Stacey Abrams, and Mayor Michelle Wu. Daniel believes Massachusetts can be more affordable — and a great place to build a good life. He will tackle our housing crisis, work to transform the MBTA, and stand up to the Trump administration. He has been endorsed by IBEW 2222, New Politics, and Mass Alliance.

The Suffolk and Middlesex District includes all of Watertown, Belmont, as well as the Fenway and Allston Brighton neighborhoods of Boston, and West Cambridge.
