When Watertown Savings Bank Branch Manager, Bill Burgess, recently visited the offices of Springwell, he brought with him a grant that will help low-income, vulnerable seniors and adults with disabilities manage their finances and remain independent, Springwell announced. In Springwell’s Money Management Program, volunteers provide monthly in-home assistance with routine money management tasks; provide guidance on how to stretch one’s budget; and educate about dangerous money scams.
“Watertown Savings Bank has been such a generous long-term supporter of the Money Management Program,” says program coordinator, Kathy Barrett. “This program is provided free to vulnerable, low-income elderly and disabled residents, thanks to the partnership of a number of local, corporate and foundation donors who close the gap between state funding for the program and the costs to run it. We are especially grateful to Watertown Savings Bank for their tremendous support over the years.”
To learn more about volunteering for or benefiting from the Money Management Program, call 617-926-4100 x201 or email kbarrett@springwell.com. Springwell is a local, non-profit organization that has been successfully creating, managing, and coordinating services for seniors, people with disabilities and those who provide care since its founding in 1977.
A group of Massachusetts business leaders committed to fight breast cancer recently gathered at Lexus of Watertown for the first-ever Drive to End Breast Cancer event.
The event kicked-off the Susan G. Komen Massachusetts Pink Tie Guys campaign, presented by Lexus of Watertown. Pink Tie Guys are an exclusive group of local men who are committed to the fight against breast cancer in Massachusetts, according to an announcement send by Lexus of Watertown. These community leaders will demonstrate their commitment by raising a minimum of $1,008 for Komen Massachusetts, representing the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. WEEI Morning Show co-host John Dennis, who is a friend and customer of General Manager of Lexus of Watertown Vincent Liuzzi, also came down to lend his support. “We have heard so many stories from our employees and customers about how breast cancer has affected their families,” Liuzzi said. “Lexus of Watertown is proud to partner with Susan G. Komen Massachusetts Pink Tie Guys to support these families during treatments.
Each month, The Madden Team puts out an analysis for the Watertown real estate market, and this month the market looks busy.
Here is the Madden Team’s report:
Compared to last month’s statistics, there seems to have been an increase in new to market activity rising from 10 new listings last month at this time to 19 new listings this month. Pending sales remained at nine for last week, which is exactly the same as it was one month ago. The sold listings also remained relatively steady going from six sales on our last statistics post to seven sales this past week. Our current inventory has seen increases across every sector of the real estate market, with some large increases and some slight increases. Both Single Family and Multi-Families have seen slight increases since last month.

The Planning Board held the first public hearing on Wednesday about potential changes to the east end of Arsenal Street that would expand possible uses from industrial to include retail, office and residential. The proposal concerned and confused many residents who attended the meeting. Boylston Properties, the owners of the Arsenal Project (former Arsenal Mall), proposed zoning changes to allow them to transform the mall into a live-work-play area. The proposal brought forward by Boylston Properties would create a Regional Mixed Use District for the area south of Arsenal Street including the Arsenal Mall, Home Depot and the building with Miller’s Ale House. Town officials added some areas to the proposed RMUD: the area where the Arsenal Mall is located, the west side of Elm Street and part of the south side of Coolidge Avenue.
