NewRep Theatre Announces 2020-21 Season Featuring Five Plays

The 2020-21 season at New Repertory Theatre features five shows, including four Tony-Award-winning plays and two musicals. New Repertory Theatre proudly announces their 2020-2021 season. Featuring five productions in the MainStage Theater at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown, the company’s 36th season includes ANGELS IN AMERICA: MILLENNIUM APPROACHES, the groundbreaking drama by Tony Kushner; THE 25 TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, the uproarious family-friendly musical comedy; STUPID F##KING BIRD, Aaron Posner’s modern-day adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull; the Tony Award-winning great jazz musical JELLY’S LAST JAM; and John Patrick Shanley’s resonant drama DOUBT, A PARABLE. The season includes 4 Tony Award-winning plays and musicals and one of the most produced titles in American Theatre over the last few years. “I am so thrilled to announce this season” shares New Rep Artistic Director Michael J. Bobbitt.

Combining this with the love of cartooning,  Small Saves  emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal–then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Mosesian Center Closing due to Coronavirus, NewRep Performances Impacted

The Mosesian Center for the Arts will close for two weeks due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and several events have been postponed or canceled. The closing impacts the performances by the New Repertory Theatre, the Art By Design Mosesian Benefit 2020, the Watertown Children’s Theatre, and classes for adults and children. NewRep Artistic Director Michael Bobbitt said performances of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill will be moved to April 25 to May 17, and Thurgood, The Scarlet Letter, and Romeo & Juliet will be rescheduled to a date to be determined. The run of August Wilson’s Fences has been cancelled. Bobbitt said the cancellations and postponements could threaten the theater company’s financial well being.

CANCELLED: Celebrate Spring with Watertown Families Together Kids’ Event

UPDATE: The Watertown Mall announced that the Spring into Spring event has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Mall:

The Watertown Mall, located at 550 Arsenal St., together with Watertown Families Together invite you to come on March 19, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. for “Spring into Spring”, an event to celebrate Spring & Easter. There will be Spring time songs, stories and crafts as well as making your own basket, bunny or chick. This is a free event & all ages are welcome, although the stories and songs are catered to younger children. This will take place in the back hallway of the mall, across from Carter’s.

Library Postpones One Book, One Watertown Events

The Watertown Free Public Library announced the remaining events related to One Book, One Watertown planned in March have been postponed. This year’s book is Lara Prescott’s The Secrets We Kept, and the activities kicked off last week, and several more were planned. The library sent out the following statement:

Due the unavailability of multiple presenters, the Watertown Free Public Library has made the decision to postpone all remaining One Book, One Watertown programming, which was scheduled to take place throughout the month of March. Rather than present programs piecemeal, the Library aims to present all of the programs as a group at another time. Please watch our website (www.watertownlib.org) and newsletter for updates as soon as we have them.

Our 9th Annual Watertown MusicFest promises to be a great community event with over 50 performances – by Watertown’s youngest musicians to professionals – on three “stages!” We also feature an instrument “Petting Zoo” and refreshments! The Majestic 7, a CW Theater, is now open and will host grand opening festivities on March 14 and 15, 2020 at its new Watertown location in Arsenal Yards. The modern seven-screen entertainment venue is just the latest of exciting openings at Arsenal Yards, the thriving 1M+ sq. foot mixed-use urban village coming to life in Watertown with 250,000 sq. ft.
