One of those killed when an SUV crashed into a West Newton resaurant on Tuesday was a Watertown woman. The Middlesex District Attorney’s office identified two of the victims of the incident at Sweet Tomatoes Pizza as Eleanor Miele, 57, of Watertown and Geegory Morin, 32, of Newton, according to a WCVB channel 5 report. Seven others were injured in the crash including four employees.

Feb. 18, 10:31 p.m.: A man was spotted in a parking lot on Woodview Way, and when police checked his information they found he had an outstanding warrant. The 28-year-old homeless man was arrested on the warrant from Lynn District Court for four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of assault and battery. Feb.
Town Manager Michael Driscoll announced that plans recreate the Watertown Shootout on the same streets that the incident occurred have been scrapped. Driscoll sent out the announcement Friday afternoon:
“Upon further reflection, filming the recreation of the Watertown Shootout when police encountered the Boston Marathon Bombers at the intersection of Dexter Avenue and Laurel Street is not in the best interest of Watertown. Therefore, CBS Films will proceed with identifying another location to film the Shootout outside of the Town of Watertown.” The announcement came after a week of emotional responses by many residents about re-enacting the firefight between Watertown Police and the Tsarnaev brothers on April 19, 2013. CBS Films had met with residents of Laurel Street to discuss plans, but the meeting held on Feb.
Watertown Police Sgt. Jeffrey Pugliese, one of the heroes of the Watertown Shootout, will be played by Oscar winner J.K. Simmons in the upcoming film “Patriots Day.” The film, being made by CBS Films and Lionsgate, will chronicle the events around the Boston Marathon Bombings, including the shootout in Watertown in which Watertown Police faced the Tsarnaev brothers. Pugliese had just gotten off duty on the night of the shootout, but raced to the scene in his family’s minivan and flanked the Tsarnaevs. He helped capture Tamerlan, who later died at hospital.

Feb. 12, 1:20 a.m.: An officer pulled over a Dodge Challenger after seeing it run a red light at Arsenal Street and Irving Street. After checking the driver’s record, police discovered he had a suspended license. The 28-year-old Watertown man was arrested on charges of a red light violation and driving with a suspended license.
A car stolen from the lot of the Watertown Mall ended up far away and much worse for wear. On Sunday, Feb. 14, an employee at the Watertown Mall went out and started a vehicle to warm it up in the very cold weather. The employee then went inside to wait, said Watertown Police Sgt. Thomas Grady.
A Watertown man died after an accident while skiing on Monday afternoon in Vermont. Vermont State Police announced that Varter Shirinian, 58, of Watertown, died after he ran into a tree while skiing at the Burke Mountain ski resort at about 3:40 p.m. Monday. Shirinaian was skiing with his family on the Big Dipper Trial when he lost control and went into the woods where he collided with a tree, police said. He was not wearing a helmet during the accident and the incident remains under investigation but there are no signs of foul play, Vermont State Police said.
A Watertown man turned himself in to Lincoln, R.I., police after he allegedly slashed the tires on 14 vehicles at a Rhode Island Casino. Security video at Twin River Casino caught a man walking up vehicles and slashed tires, according to a news release from the casino. Police identified used surveillance and gaming information to identify the suspect as Jeffery C. Parillo, 43, of East Watertown, according to a Providence Journal report.
