Flames were coming out of a house on Westminster Avenue when Watertown Firefighters arrived Tuesday afternoon. The Fire Department extinguished the fire, which went to two alarms.
At about 3:45 p.m., calls came in for a fire on Westminster, said Watertown Fire Chief Ryan Nicholson. The resident noticed the fire and got out of the home before the Fire Department arrived, Nicholson said. “Members of (WFD) Group 4, under Deputy Chief (Dan) Tardiff, put a quick stop to the fire,” Nicholson said.
The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Jan. 2, 9 a.m.: A package was stolen containing two items that cost $20. The item went missing from the Watertown Housing Authority building on Waverley Avenue.
Jan. 2: A man was spotted taking three pairs of headphones worth a combined $340.
The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Dec. 13: A Bromfield Street resident received a suspicious email from an unknown person asking to send money to a Bitcoin address. The resident did not send the money and reported it to the Police. Dec.
Watertown Police Chief Justin Hanrahan announced the arrest of a Cambridge man in relation to vandalism at one of Watertown’s Armenian churches in November. Chief Hanrahan is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of our investigation into the vandalism incident at St. Stephen’s Armenian Church on November 18, 2024. Thanks to the diligent efforts of our patrol and detective divisions, a Cambridge resident has been identified and will face criminal charges for their actions.
The FBI arrested a man who traveled to Watertown from New York to allegedly sell drugs on Friday. The Boston Globe reported that Cesar Nunez Lopez, of New York City, went to a parking lot in town to meet a person he believed to be a buyer, but was actually a federal informant. Nunez Lopez allegedly sold the man fentanyl on three different occasions, including at the Home Depot parking lot in Watertown. He was arrested on drug trafficking charges. Watertown and Belmont Firefighters doused a fire at the Oakley Country Club which could have been worse if the building did not have fire sprinklers. Just after 5 a.m. on Friday, the Watertown Fire Department was alerted of activation of the smoke detectors and sprinklers at Oakley, said Watertown Fire Chief Ryan Nicholson. Because of the location of the country club on Belmont Street a fire engine from Belmont was dispatched, Nicholson said, and the crew found heavy smoke inside the building. Deputy Fire Chief Arthur Geswell ordered a “Working Fire,” and fire companies found the fire was contained to one room, Nicholson said.
