Watertown Rolls to Win in First Round of Boys Basketball Tournament

On Super Tuesday, Watertown won by a landslide  victory, 76-48, over Ipswich in the first road MIAA Div. 3 North Section Tournament .

The game was all but over by halftime of the game at Watertown High School. The Raiders held Ipswich to just 10 points in the first quarter, and posted a 49-26 halftime lead. “The key was our pressure defense. We just went after it and turned them over a ton,” said Watertown head coach Steve Harrington.

Watertown Lacrosse Enjoying Success at the College Level, Too

Watertown Lacrosse sent out the following story:

If you took a poll as to what sport has the most kids from Watertown High playing in college, it would probably come as no surprise that due to its long time dominance of the Div. 2 Field hockey world and a current unbeaten streak of 160 games, the seven-time defending State Champion WHS field Hockey team would lead the pack. No less than nine Red Raiders are currently on the rosters of elite schools such as Babson, BU, Holy Cross, Northeastern and Stonehill, where one alumnus, Erika Kelly (WHS ‘12), was recently named the 2015 National Player of the Year in D2! What may come as a bit of a surprise is the sport coming in a close second, with eight current college players. That answer is one of the newest sports in Watertown: Lacrosse.

Watertown Middle School Kicks Off Pennies for Patients Fundraiser

This year, the Watertown Middle School will again be participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School & Youth Program, Pennies for Patients — a three-week coin, cash, and check drive to raise funds to find cures for blood cancers. Our drive will run from February 29 through March 21. As you may know, leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. Mr. Johnson, our physical education teacher, is a lymphoma survivor. Our fundraising is in honor of him and in memory of two other WMS teachers, Pat Stayn and Peter Clough, who died as a result of lymphoma.
