Watertown Captures Middlesex League Football Title

The Raiders stayed undefeated and won the Middlesex League Freedom Division title Friday night. Watertown headed to Wilmington, and the game was tied 7-7 at halftime. The Raiders scored in the second half to take the 14-0 win and move to a perfect 7-0 record. Zachary Rimsa and Alex Martinos scored touchdowns for Watertown, according to the Boston Herald. Next week the MIAA football playoffs begin, and Watertown will find out who they will be playing when the seedings are announced on Sunday.

Watertown Youth Softball Players Get Some Special Visitors

Watertown Youth Softball players recently got some advice from an experienced softball players. Brook Capello and the Newbury College Nighthawks Softball Team put on a free clinic for the Watertown Youth. See the account from Watertown Youth Softball below:
It is a rarity in today’s world when a group of people can find time from their busy work loads to give back to the community. But that is exactly what Brook Capello and the Newbury College Softball team did this past weekend at the Hosmer Field. These young ladies took time out of their busy college careers and traveled to our town to help support our young and growing program.

Watertown Football Team Remains Undefeated

The Raiders football team continued their unbeaten season with a tough game at Burlington on Friday night. Watertown watched a 28-7 third-quarter lead disappear when Burlington scored a touchdown and two-point conversion to go up 29-28 with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter, according to a report in the Lowell Sun. The Raiders drove and Zach Rimsa scored on a 2-yard run with 30 seconds left, the Sun reported. The team added a two-point conversion to win 36-29. Watertown improved to 6-0.

Raiders Remain Undefeated in Football After Win Over Melrose

Watertown put its undefeated season on the line against a team that beat them last last year, but this year they came out victorious. The Raiders held on to beat Melrose 28-26 at Victory Field on Friday night. The team was lead by Nick Giordano and Zack Rimsa, who each scored two touchdowns, according to the Boston Globe report. Fallen Firefighter Ed Walsh to be Honored at WHS Football Game

On Friday night, Watertown native and fallen Boston Firefighter Ed Walsh will be honored at the Watertown High School football game. Lt. Walsh died fighting a fire in the Back Bay in March. His funeral was held at St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown and thousands of firefighters from around the country came to pay tribute (see more here). Other WHS sports teams have paid tribute to Walsh, who attended the high school, including the baseball and lacrosse teams.

Raiders Play Thursday Football, Field Hockey Team on TV

Watertown enjoyed success under the Thursday night lights at Victory Field. The Raiders beat Wakefield 40-22 on a rare Thursday night contest. Watertown beat Reading 3-0 in field hockey on Thursday to extend the team’s unbeaten streak to 125.

Watertown Field Hockey Coach to be Featured on News Broadcast

Watertown field hockey coach Eileen Donahue will be featured in a piece on WCVB Channel 5 on Oct. 2. SportCenter 5 anchor Mike Lynch will talk to Donahue about the Raider’s record breaking winning streak for the High 5 feature during the 11 p.m. newscast on Thursday, Oct. 2. NewsCenter 5’s High report is a weekly report highlighting the outstanding achievements of high school scholar-athletes.

The Raiders toppled Stoneham in the first Middlesex League game of the year. 

Watertown won 29-14, led by quarterback Nick Giordano, who threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, according to the lengthy account in the Boston Herald (read the whole story here).
