See Action from the Watertown Field Hockey Team’s Latest Win

If you drive by Watertown High School you will notice some large numbers posted in the window. These signify the success of the Watertown field hockey team. The numbers are both large in size – around five feet high – and what the stand for – the Raiders unbeaten streak. On Thursday the number “121” was displayed but Athletic Director Michael Lahiff will have to add another 2 after Watertown defeated Lincoln-Sudbury 7-0 on Thursday afternoon. The game was well in hand after at halftime, when the Raiders held a 5-0.

Watertown continued its success on the football and field hockey turf this week. The Raiders traveled to play Shawsheen in football on Saturday and came away 26-6 victors. The Boston Globe reports that Zach Rimsa scored two touchdowns for Watertown. The Raiders improve to 2-0 and play at Stoneham on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m.

The field hockey team has now stretched its unbeaten streak to 121, after beating Winchester 7-0 on the road and Wakefield 6-0 at home.

Watertown High School Alums Guide Stonehill to Field Hockey Win

Two former Watertown Raiders scored goals in Stonehill College’s 4-0 win over Bentley in field hockey on Wednesday. Junior Lauren Giordano scored the lone goal of the first half just 2:57 in to the game and the first one in the second half as the fifth-ranked nationally Skyhawks won the game played in Waltham. Fellow Watertown grad Erika Kelly finished the scoring for Stonehill. She also earned an assist in the game, which improved the Skyhawks to 4-0. Giordano scored her third game-winning goal of the year against Bentley.

Watertown Youth Baseball, Softball Celebrate at Banquet

Players from Watertown Youth Baseball and Girl’s Softball packed the Sons of Italy hall for the year-end celebration. Guest speaker for the night was former Watertown Little Leaguer Doug Rogers. Doug, who is still in the prime of his young career, has an impressive resume, including being a four-year starter for the Harvard University Varsity Hockey team, member of the Boston Little Bruins, player for the US National U17 and U18 teams. Doug was also drafted by the New York Islanders in 2006. Coaches Brian Demore and Tom Gately received awards for their many years of service as coaches. Awards also went to all of the youth players.

Watertown Football Ready to Kickoff its Season, More WHS Sports

The Raiders kick off the 2014 football season Friday night at Victory Field. Watertown hosts Medway at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 in Watertown. The team lost some talented seniors to graduation, but Coach John Cacace told the Watertown Tab that this year’s team will try their hardest to get a sixth straight winning season. WHS Sports: Field Hockey, Soccer Kick Off Season, Football Schedule

The Raiders hit the field for another season this week, taking on their rivals from Belmont. Watertown’s field hockey team defeated Belmont 4-0 in season opener at Victory Field. The Raiders next host Arlington on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

The Raiders boys soccer team starts the season with two home games. First they face Belmont on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Victory Field, and then host Arlington on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The girls soccer soccer team hits the road for the first two games against Belmont and Arlington. They come home to face Winchester on Thursday at Moxley Field.

8 Watertown Youth Softball Players Selected to All-Star Team

Watertown’s Youth Softball Teams have eight players selected to take part in the Middle Essex Softball All-Star Game. The girls will play against some of the state’s finest players in games played at Monahan Park in Dracut on Saturday, Aug. 2. There will be games for 1o and under, 12u, 14u and 18u. The players were selected not only for their great play but also for their leadership skills and everyday enthusiasm that they bring to their team, according to the announcement from Watertown Youth Softball.
