The 14U Winter Raiders avenged an earlier loss at the recent winter tournament.

The Watetown 14U Winter Raiders competed in a tournament and had eyes on beating the only team to hand them a loss.

Coach Del Furbish provided this account of the tournament:

This past Saturday the 14U Winter Raiders were in the playoffs. Their mission was to play the top seed and avenge an earlier loss. The Raiders were the number two seed as their only loss came from a tough Academy team.

This tournament team has been together for quite a while and won it all last year. Earlier in the season they handed the Raiders their only loss with a score of 10-3. The Team felt like they could have done better and was hoping for a rematch in the playoffs. And they got their wish. It wasn’t easy as the girls battled through for a gritty 4-3 win!!l

Although we lost our next game 3-2 to Salem (a very good team that the Raiders had bested 8-3 the week before) it was still a huge accomplishment for a team that has not been together too long. The Raiders proved to be very successful not just because of the talent but because of the chemistry. Everybody on the team displayed leadership skills that are so  crucial to having a good team. They all picked each other up when needed.

The team had the luxury of having not one but three ACES in Christine MacLeod, Molly Egan and Gianna Sciarappa. The leader of this trio and having the honor of catching for them was Christine Zhu. Backing up the defense were some big bats and great speed from the likes of Haley Bass, Jacquie Furbish, Jillian Girard, Stephanie Laskaris, Nicole Monges, Stella Papadopoulos, and Lane Ward.

Stay tuned for our next Softball adventure …
