WHS Sports: Basketball Team Piling Up Wins, Track Excels & More

Watertown seniors Chris Iannetta, left, and Nick McDermott, and the rest of the Raiders boys basketball team, have been on a hot streak recently. The defending State Champion Watertown High School boys basketball team has hit a hot streak, piling up the wins over the past few weeks, including a buzzer beater. After a 1-3 start, the Raiders have improved to 9-7 overall (7-7 in the Middlesex League), including wins in six of the last eight contests. Watertown won a thriller against Melrose, 53-51, on the last second hoop by senior Nick McDermott. Watch the highlight courtesy of Watertown Cable, below.

Boston Bruins Players Drop by Perkins School for to Try Out a Different Sport

Three members of the Boston Bruins took some time away from the ice to join students from Perkins School for the Blind for a game of goal ball on Monday afternoon. NHL players Zdeno Chara, Ryan Donato and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson donned the black and gold jerseys with the famous spoked “B,” while students came dressed in their blue jerseys with “Perkins” across the front. The Bruins were greeted by the school’s cheerleading team, which got the crowd in the Perkins gym warmed up with a few numbers. Then it was time to strap on the goggles and play some goal ball.

WHS Sports: Runner Posts One of Fastest Times in State History, Girls Win Hoops Tourney

Watertown senior Mange Camara set one of the fastest times in state history in the 300 meters. Here he is running in the 2018 MIAA Div. 4 Indoor Championships. Watertown track star Mange Camara got his senior season off to a good start by running one of the top times in Massachusetts high school history in the 300 meters. Camara ran the 300 meter sprint in 34.44 seconds at the MSTCA Indoor Speed Classic at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston on Dec.

Watertown Senior Named to Globe’s All-Scholastic Boys Soccer Team

Watertown senior Alex Egan was named to the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic boys soccer team. Watertown senior Alex Egan wrapped up his high school soccer career by being named to the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastic team. Egan’s seven goals and 15 assists helped the Raiders win their first outright Middlesex League title. He finished his career with 17 goals and 18 assists. He was also named the Middlesex League Freedom’s Most Valuable Player.

The Watertown High School girls basketball team won its home opener Sunday against South Boston, 44-16, on Sunday. The Raiders bounced back from their first loss of the season, 41-34 at Wakefield, on Friday. With Sunday’s win, Watertown improved its season record to 3-1 (1-1 in the Middlesex League). Sophia Garapetian runs the fast break for Watertown against South Boston.
