Get Ready for the Patriots Victory Parade and Some Wintery Weather

The New England Patriots will celebrate their amazing comeback win in Super Bowl LI with a parade in Boston on Tuesday.

Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady and the rest of the team will ride the duck boats beginning at 11 a.m. in the Back Bay. According to NECN, the route will take the team down Boylston Street starting at Dalton Street, turn left onto Tremont Street and end at City Hall. Fans should expect a wintery mix of rain and snow Tuesday, WBZ Channel 4 reports. Boston is forecast to get an inch or less of snow, which is likely to be washed away by the rain.

Kourtney Kennedy had already enjoyed a successful senior season, winning a state championship and collecting many accolades, and now she has received an honor never given to any field hockey player from Watertown, or even Massachusetts – National Athlete of the Year. Kennedy received the National High School Senior Field Hockey Athlete of the Year honor, the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) announced this week. “Kourtney is an excellent example what this award stands for,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA said in the award announcement. “Kourtney has excelled on the field and off.  She is a leader that led her school to national records for victories. We congratulate Kourtney on an outstanding high school career.”

Watertown Boys, Girls Basketball Teams Off to Hot Start

Both Watertown High School varsity basketball squads have enjoyed successful starts to their seasons, each only losing one game.

The boys, coached by Steve Harrington, have won eight straight after losing the opener against Arlington. The team spreads the scoring around, but the top scorers for most games are John Korte (who scored 21 against Wilmington and 24 at Burlington) and Jayden Hairston (who was the top scorer at Burlington with 18). Vondre Chase and Julio Fulcar routinely score in double figures, too. The Raiders have road games against Wakefield and Woburn before returning to host Lexington on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.

The girls basketball team dropped their first game of the season at Melrose last Friday.

She was on the way home from the team’s tryouts in Pennsylvania when she got the news. “I was first very excited to be invited to try out for the team but more excited when I heard that I made the U17 National Squad,” Kennedy said. “I’m just vey fortunate to have been coached well at WHS and on my club team, Boston Field Hockey Club.”

WHS Grad CJ Logan Donates Bone Marrow to Help Patient in Need

Men ages 18 to 35 are ideal bone marrow donors for patients who need a life-saving transplant to cure their blood cancer or other blood disease. Knowing this, Be The Match, the organization that manages the world’s largest and most diverse registry of potential marrow donors, is focused on attracting more registry members in this crucial demographic. Potential donors are largely unaware of the need and process for bone marrow donation, and Be The Match hopes to change that by sharing stories of young men like Jacob Gribb, Watertown High grad C.J. Logan and Jake Prus, former college athletes who have completed the donation process and are passionate about getting others involved. “The first time it really hit me about what was happening was when I asked a nurse what would have happened if I had decided not to donate,” Gribb said. “She told me that the patient wouldn’t have had a chance to survive and would have died.
