A health center in California that provides services to women and families was dedicated to and named for a woman who grew up in Watertown.
With a collection of tens of thousands of historic post cards, Watertown’s Kathryn Alpert had a wealth of choices for her new book “Lost & Found: Historic Boston in Post Cards.” Watertown News spoke with Alpert about the creation of her book.
Watertown’s Director of Student Services will be stepping down before the beginning of school in September. The announcement came after parents of students in the special education program aired their complaints at the second straight School Committee meeting. A group of more than 100 parents also signed a petition requesting that the School Committee take a vote of no confidence for the Director of Student Services, who oversees the special education program.
The track, tennis courts and basketball courts at Victory Field will soon close until next year while Victory Field Phase II improvements are made. The City of Watertown sent out the following information.

Watertown’s Health Department has received more than 100 complaints about rodents since the beginning of the trash strike. At their meeting the Board of Health also heard about the start of the City’s body work regulations, and approved a life science company’s permit.
Cooler than normal, low-humidity conditions continue through midweek before temperatures rebound into the weekend. A midweek storm system brings widespread rain, then Hurricane Erin passes well southeast of New England on Friday, producing no direct impacts inland but stirring up rough surf, rip currents, and gusty winds across Cape Cod and the Islands. For most of Eastern Massachusetts, the pattern turns warmer and drier over the weekend. Another front brings a chance of showers late Sunday into Monday, followed by a return to seasonable and pleasant late summer weather midweek.
Watertown Police commended a 20-year-old man for helping a driver who was experiencing a medical emergency, and preventing any additional injuries and damage.

Football season will soon kick off at Victory Field. Watertown High School’s varsity team has its first scrimmage on Aug. 23, and will open the regular season on Sept. 5.
