The possibility of building a new Middle School in Watertown moved a step closer to becoming a reality at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The Council also approved funding for projects at City parks, the library, Police Station, and for Watertown’s Treaty Day celebration.

On Saturday, October 14, the Watertown Free Public Library (WFPL) will host the third-annual Watertown Zine Fest — a celebration of DIY publishing, creativity, and idea sharing. This year, festival highlights will include over forty zinester-vendors from near and far, a “zine-making hive” where anyone can get creative, and guest lectures that explore the intersection of zines, mental health, and Indigenous perspectives. As always, the event is free to all. Not sure what a zine is? No problem!

The following story is part of a series on local history provided by the Historical Society of Watertown. It is from our October 1999 newsletter “The Town Crier.” It was written in 1894 by then-Historical Society of Watertown Vice President, William Ingraham. Mr. Ingraham was a founding member of the Historical Society, and served the town at various time as Town Clerk, Town Selectman, on the Board of Assessors, on the Improvement Association (for streets).
