Police Log: Men Face Charges After Drug Deal Goes Awry, Woman Uses Stolen Plates

May 6, 9 a.m.: Police received information that a man working at the Colonial GMC dealership was wanted on a warrant. The 30-year-old Jamaica Plain man was arrested on two warrants for larceny, one from Waltham District Court and one from Brighton District Court. May 9, 7:20 a.m.: An officer spotted a vehicle run a red light on Watertown Street at California Street. When the officer ran the registration the plates came back as stolen from Revere.

2 Women Caught Running a Shoe Theft Ring at Marshalls

Police busted two women who tried to return shoes at the Marshalls in the Arsenal Mall which they had taken from another location of the store. 

On the afternoon of May 5, security at Marshalls spotted two women in line, and bother were seen returning shoes for gift cards, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. One woman returned two pairs of shoes and got a gift card for $698, O’Connor said. The second woman, identified as Brianna Andrews of Dracut, returned two pieces of clothing and two pairs of shoes for a total of $372.97, which she received on a gift card. “When she was leaving she picked up three notebooks off the sales counter and concealed them in her pocketbook,” O’Connor said. “She tried to leave without paying but she was detained by security.”

Police Log: Woman Tries to Use Fake ID to Buy MacBook, Wheels Stolen Off Car at Dealership

April 26, 6:15 p.m.: Best Buy security caught a woman who tried to use a fake ID and credit card to buy a MacBook Pro worth $2,500. The Pennsylvania license she used did not pass the machine that tests IDs, and the lamination was peeling. When police arrived, the woman produced a second ID that did not checkout, either. Finally she gave them an ID from New York that checked out.

Man Arrested After Cigarette Links Him to Watertown Home Break In

Watertown Police were able to link a man to a home break in through the brand of cigarette that he smokes. 

On May 1 at 11:15 p.m. Watertown Police received a call from a Winsor Avenue resident who said a man had just broken into her home, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. “The man entered here apartment and she had no idea who the person was,” O’Connor said. “She was upstairs when she heard her front door open. She went downstairs and saw a male in the interior of her apartment and she began yelling for him to get out. She was able to physically push him out, locked the door and called police.”

Police Log: Tagger Caught With Paint on His Hands, False Tax Return Filed

April 11, 5:45 p.m.: The manager at Stop & Shop on Watertown Street reported catching a man putting multiple items in a shopping cart and when he went through the self-checkout he only scanned some of the items. He was stopped when he tried to leave and employees found he had not paid for $426 in groceries. The 36-year-old Waltham man was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250. April 13, 12:30 p.m.: A person who witnessed a male tagging a utility box on Main Street with paint called police and followed the suspect. When officers stopped the man they found three paint markers, a small can of black spray paint and a bottle of black paint.

Police Log: Man Tries to Walk Away from Hit & Run Accident, Fendi Bags Stolen

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrest
April 7, 10:50 p.m.: An officer patrolling near Palfrey Street was called to the area for an accident and saw a man walking down the sidewalk and a second man running after him. About the same time, dispatch received a call for an accident where a driver hit a parked car on Palfrey Street. The second man told police that he saw the first man get out of his car which was parked in the middle of the street, just down the street. The officers talked to the man who is suspected to have been driving the car and he had an odor of alcohol on his breath, so police conducted field sobriety tests.

Police Log: Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested on OUI, Employee Caught Taking Money

The following information was provided by the Watertown Police Department. Arrests
March 29, 4:45 p.m.: Police received a report of a hit-and-run accident on Common Street after a car struck a parked car on the hill section of the road. The vehicle was last seen heading southbound toward Watertown Square. It was located on Katherine Road and the officer spotted heavy front-end damage and fluids leaking from the car. During and interview, the officer detected an odor of alcohol on the breath of the driver, and conducted field sobriety tests.

Man Busted After Attempting to Take Bike Out from Under Cyclist

A Newton man faces criminal charges after he tried to grab the bicycle out from under a bicyclist riding down Pleasant Street just before midnight on March 31. 

Police were called to the area of Pleasant Street near Russo’s for a man wearing a mask, yelling and running in and out of traffic, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. A few minutes later an employee from Russo’s reported a man fitting the same description was in the store parking lot near the loading dock. “An officer located the person and was able to control the situation,” O’Connor said. He also spoke to a man who said the suspect attacked him. “The victim stated while he was riding his bicycle home on Pleasant Street the man jumped out in front of him and attempted to take his bicycle,” O’Connor said.
