Watertown’s girls basketball team got back on track after suffering its first loss of the year. 

The Raiders went to Stoneham on Tuesday and won 57-27, with Katelyn Rourke and Nicole Lanzo scoring a combined 33 points. Friday night, Watertown came home and defeated Wilmington 58-37. The Raiders are now 7-1 and 6-0 in the Middlesex League. Boys Basketball

Watertown Girls Basketball Team Faces Challenge in Holiday Tournament

The Watertown girls basketball team won’t be able to complete another undefeated regular season after falling in the final of the Hutchinson Tournament. The Raiders lost their first game of the year 40-36 to Coyle & Cassidy (5-0) in the final of the holiday tournament in Bellingham. Watertown recovered from a slow start to pull even at the end of the first quarter, but the Raiders could never take the lead, according to the report on Wicked Local Watertown. Junior Shannon Murphy led the Raiders with 17 points. Watertown plays in the Div.

WHS Sports: Basketball Teams Claim Victories, Hockey Teams Fall

The Watertown basketball teams both claimed home victories Wednesday night in a day full of action for the Raiders. The boys basketball team grabbed its first win of the year. Watertown beat visiting Burlington 57-43 and improved to 1-3. The Raiders will return to the WHS Gym on Jan. 2 to take on Waltham at 7 p.m.
Senior forward Felicia Korte scored 11 points to help the Raiders girls basketball team beat Burlington 43-27.

WHS Girls Basketball Highly Ranked, Boys Hockey Skates to First Win

The Watertown High School girls basketball team lost only once last year, and the Raiders may have even more expectations according to the polls. The Boston Herald ranked Watertown third in Eastern Massachusetts Pre-Season Poll, ESPN Boston ranks the Raiders third in their MIAA Girls Basketball Poll and the Boston Globe has Watertown fifth in its Top 20. Among MIAA Div. 2 North squads, the Raiders are at the top, according to the Herald. Other squads in the North to contend with are Arlington Catholic and Belmont, the team the Raiders beat in the Section Semifinal last year, according to the Heralds’ Girls Div.

Watertown Basketball Teams Battle Winchester in Home Openers

The Watertown boys and girls basketball teams faced Middlesex League foe Winchester during Friday’s home openers, and had mixed results. 

The boys basketball team struggled with the Sachems, trailing by 20 or more points during the second half. Head Coach Steve Harrington’s team played fast paced, as always, and the pressure defense allowed the Raiders to get back within 10 points with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter. Winchester, however, began to break the press and pulled away to win 65-48 in the early game at the WHS Gym. The Raiders drop to 0-2 on the season, and have another home game against Reading on Monday at 5 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. game Wednesday at home against Burlington. Girls Roll

Watertown Basketball, Hockey Teams Get Ready for Home Openers

The Watertown winter sports teams will have quite a time coming up with a better encore for the 2015-16 season, after the boys hockey team won its first state title and the girls basketball team made it to the Garden for the EMass final. 

The Raiders hockey and basketball teams will hold their home openers this weekend, with the hoops squads tipping off Friday and the pucksters teams hitting the ice on Saturday. Both sports opened their seasons on the road this week, but only one of four teams came away with a win. Hockey
The defending Div. 3 State Champion boys hockey team is ranked 22nd in the ESPN Boston poll and has experienced forward lines, but an inexperienced defense and goalie. The Raiders fell on the road to Arlington by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday night.

Former Basketball Great Casey Brackett to Enter WHS Athletic Hall of Fame

Former Watertown basketball player Casey Brackett will be one of the inductees to the Watertown High School Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 17. The WHS HOF committee submitted the following profile of Brackett. By the time Casey Brackett walked the graduation line at Victory Field in 2003, the point guard extraordinaire was a two time Herald All-Scholastic, a Globe All-Scholastic, a Middlesex League MVP, a two-time League all-star, and had added his name to the WHS record book by becoming the school’s all-time leader in assists and steals. The tireless worker and deft defender also possessed a killer shooting range and was fearless driving the lane, scoring over 900 points in his decorated career.
