A Christmas Journey concert takes place on Sunday, December 18, 4 PM, at Taxiarchae / Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Avenue in Watertown. Hosted by the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church Choir with Director Cynthia Mitaras Alex, Guest Director Monty Hill, Director and Accompanist Sophia Argeros, and Accompanist Jim Speros. Perkins School’s Holiday Concert Available Live & Remotely

Concert Focuses on Stories, Struggles, Triumphs of Immigrants

On Friday, December 9, 2022 at 7:30 p.m., Boston-based Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble kicks off its 48th season with Sonic Migrations, the third cycle of Hub of the Musiverse, a concert series which centers the stories, struggles, and triumphs of immigrants through new music. Whether through the inspiration behind each composition, or the composers themselves, each program highlights the diversity and importance of immigrant voices and centers their stories in our community. The program includes incisive works by Aida Shirazi and Golnaz Shariatzadeh, members of the Iranian Female Composers Association, an organization founded to provide a welcoming space for Iranian female-identifying compositional voices around the globe. Kareem Roustom’s Aleppo Songs takes urban folk songs from Aleppo, transforming them into grand pianistic gestures. Bongani Ndodana-Breen’s Emakhaya recalls scenes of village life of the Xhosa people of South Africa’s Eastern Cape province.

Innovative Cellist Performing in Online Concert Hosted by Armenian Museum

Hal MasonbergCellist Artyom Manukyan’s electro-jazz quartet will be streamed by the Armenian Museum of America in Watertown for its Online Concert on Feb. 27. The following information comes from the Armenian Museum of America:

The Armenian Museum of America recently announced its Ninth Online Concert featuring an exclusive performance by the Artyom Manukyan Quartet. This Armenia-based electro-jazz ensemble features Arman Mnatsakanyan (drums), Arman Peshtmaljyan (keyboards), Karen Mamikonyan (keyboards), and Artyom Manukyan (cello). The concert will be shown online on Sunday, Feb.

Perkins School for the Blind

Students at Perkins School for the Blind kept the tradition of the annual Holiday Concert going in 2020. This year they performed it virtually. Perkins sent out the following message, and video of the concert:

We want to wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy holiday season from the entire Perkins community. In that spirit, we’re excited to invite you to enjoy a video of this year’s virtual holiday concert! We had to do things a bit differently this year but music education at Perkins has continued and the students love it.

Wednesday’s Watertown Concert Has Been Cancelled

Town officials announced that the outdoor concert planned for Wednesday, Aug. 12 has been cancelled due to expected thunderstorms.

The concert planned for Saltonstall Park featuring Southbound Train will not be rescheduled. “We will have them back next year though!” the announcement from the Town said. There are still two more concerts in the Watertown Summer Concert Series.
