Watertown’s First Marijuana Dispensary Gets Approval from ZBA

Watertown’s first recreational marijuana dispensary received approval from the Zoning Board, but Town officials will be keeping an eye on lines and traffic at the facility in East Watertown.

On Jan. 22, the Zoning Board of Appeals approved the special permit requested by Natural Selections to make changes to prepare for adult-use marijuana sales.

When sales will begin at the dispensary in a building at the rear of the 23 Elm St. is not certain. Chief Operating Officer Aidan O’Donovan said medical marijuana sales will begin when the state’s Cannabis Control Commission gives approval. The group hopes to be on the CCC’s agenda in February.

Planned Pleasant St. Marijuana Dispensary to be Discussed at Community Meeting

The company seeking to open a marijuana dispensary on Pleasant Street on the Westside of Watertown will hold a community meeting about the project on Feb. 6. The announcement was provided by Bud’s Goods & Provisions Corp., the firm seeking to open the adult-use marijuana dispensary at 330-350 Pleasant St. The dispensary would be part of the new mixed-use development going up near the intersection of Pleasant Street and Rosdale Road. According to the presentation sent to the Town, Bud’s would occupy a 5,000 sq.

Watertown’s First Marijuana Dispensary Could Open in Early 2020, Selling Medical First

The first marijuana dispensary to get approval in Watertown could open its doors in the next month, or so, selling medical marijuana first and several months later for recreational use. The Planning Board heard from Natural Selections on Wednesday night, which is seeking changes to the special permit it received in 2017. The company plans to open the facility in a building in the rear of the property at 23 Elm St., just off Arsenal Street and across from the Target parking lot. The changes are needed to get ready for sales of adult-use marijuana, also referred to as recreational. Before it can open, Natural Selections must get approval from the state Cannabis Control Commission (CCC), said Chief Operating Officer Aidan O’Donovan.

Natural Selections has already received approval to open a medical marijuana facility in the same location.

Medical Marijuana Facility Passes Last Hurdle with Approval by ZBA

The Zoning Board voted unanimously to approve the medical marijuana dispensary in East Watertown on Wednesday night, giving the facility the final approval needed from the town to open.

ZBA members had questions about the building and also the operations of the medical marijuana facility. East End Town Councilor Angeline Kounelis told the board members that they should remember while it is in an industrial zone, there are many homes near the facility. “Abutters of the site are vehemently opposed (to the dispensary),” Kounelis said. “They are not here. These residents are burnt out.

Zoning Board Discusses Medical Marijuana Facility, Delayed Final Vote

The proposed medical marijuana facility went before the Zoning Board, the final approval required before it would be allowed to open in East Watertown, but the vote will have to wait until May. Natural Selections has applied to open a facility in a building at 23 Elm Street, behind the one that is home to A-Affordable Auto Insurance. The Zoning Board asked about the building it would go into and about how the dispensary would work. Only patients who are registered with the state and have a Medical Marijuana ID, or registered  personal care givers will be able to go to the center to get cannabis, said attorney Stephanie Haughey. Aidan O’Donovan, chief operating officer of Natural Selections, said that smoking or any other form of consumption of marijuana will not be permitted on site.

Medical Marijuana Dispensary Gets OK by Planning Board, Last Step ZBA

The proposed medical marijuana facility in East Watertown got the Planning Board’s approval and now has just one more hurdle before final approval. Wednesday night the Planning Board approved the special permit request from Natural Selections to open a dispensary at 23 Elm Street, and the board gave the dispensary one more day of operation than recommended in the Community Development and Planning’s staff report. The staff report recommended that the dispensary be allowed to be open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Chief Operating Officer of Natural Selections, Aidan O’Donovan, asked that the days of operations be extended to Sundays. Not everybody like the idea of having the dispensary open seven days a week. Town Councilor Lisa Feltner said that while the area is zoned industrial it has many other types of properties.
