Mosesian Center Hosting Benefit, Spring Class Registration Open

The Mosesian Center for the Arts will honor a local design firm and a man who helped found the center at its Annual Benefit. Also, you can now register for spring classes. The Mosesian Center for the Arts sent out the following information:

Latest Episode of Inside Watertown Focuses on Theater in Watertown

Special guests Michael Bobbitt (second from right) from New Repertory Theatre and the Mosesian Ceter for the Arts’ Roberta Miller were featured on “Inside Watertown.” They joined co-hosts Bob Airasian, left, and Charlie Breitrose. Two people who have helped bring theater productions to Watertown were featured on the most recent episode of Watertown Cable’s Inside Watertown. New Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Michael Bobbitt and Roberta Miller, executive director of the Mosesian Center of the Arts, joined co-hosts Charlie Breitrose and Bob Airasian for the show, which is now airing on Watertown Cable. Bobbitt, who recently joined New Rep, spoke about his role and the play he is directing, Oliver!, which will be at the Mosesian Center for the Arts through Dec.

Upstage Lung Cancer Presenting Musical Tribute to Disney in Watertown

Kicking off its 11th year utilizing the performing arts to raise awareness in the fight against lung cancer, Upstage Lung Cancer (ULC) presents a one-night-only cabaret concert, A Musical Tribute To Walt Disney: When you Wish Upon A Star, on Tuesday, October 29, 7:30 pm at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown.  The event is open to the public, a pre-concert silent auction begins at 6 pm. Presented in partnership with the LUNGevity Foundation, all proceeds from the performance support the cause of early lung cancer detection research. 

A high-spirited evening of music making and storytelling, A Musical Tribute to Walt Disney honors the imaginative genius who brought all of the joys and fantasies of childhood to life. In 1966, at the age of 65, Walt Disney died of lung cancer. In that year and the many that have followed, millions have watched a Disney movie or the Walt Disney television show, visited Disneyland or Walt Disney World and have brought this icon’s life work into their homes. Few creative individuals have made such a long-lasting and indelible mark on American life and culture.

Join us for 2D and 3D visual arts activities, sculpture, a music and movement workshop, and more! Learn about all of our Fall, Winter, and School Vacation educational offerings, and check out our fabulous Members Show Exhibition!

Free Family Arts Day at Mosesian Center for the Arts

The Mosesian Center for the Arts invites you to Arts For All Festival 2019 happening this Saturday! This free, family-friendly, drop-in open house takes place June 8, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown and offers visual and performing arts workshops, kid friendly activities, Steam Roller Printing, performances by Drumatix, Keytar Bear, and more! 

Artists of all ages and abilities can explore the senses with a variety of arts activities like Sound Inspired Art, Nature in Watercolor, Musical Story Corner, and Air Dry Clay Sculpting. The event will once again feature The Steamroller Printing Project where professional printmakers ink up carved plates then roll over them with an industrial steamroller from the Watertown DPW yard to create relief print masterpieces! Rhythm and dance group DrumatiX will share their blend of dance and drumming using tap dance, everyday objects, large drums/barrels, body percussion, technology and tons of humor on the Mosesian MainStage! And Boston’s most beloved busker Keytar Bear will rock some tunes on the green from 11am to 1pm.

The Dorothy and Charles Mosesian Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the details of its annual fundraising event happening on Thursday, May 23, 2019. ARTS FOR ALL: Mosesian Center Benefit 2019 promises to be a remarkable evening to highlight the importance of Accessibility in the Arts. The event will feature compelling stories of transformation, exceptional entertainment, both visual and tactile art for all to experience, and the celebration of some very special people. This year, the Center is proud to honor three Mosesian Awardees who encourage us all to experience the arts, each other, and the world, in new and unexpected ways:

• Jon Sarkin – 2019 Mosesian Award for the Arts An acclaimed self-taught artist living in Gloucester, MA. The neurological effects of a stroke in 1989 led him to be wildly prolific.

Meet the Artists, Network at Regional Chamber’s Free Event in Watertown

The Newton-Needham Regional Chamber will host a free event at the Mosesian Center for the Arts where attendees can meet the artists who created works for the exhibition. The Newton-Needham Chamber provided the following information:

Come to see 100 works created by artists from Newton, Needham, Wellesley, Dedham, and Watertown at a reception at the Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown. Mingle with the artists at the juried event, titled the Five Stars Regional Exhibit, and ask them about their work. Hosted by the art associations of the five cities, the reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit runs April 4-May 10.

From Lady Day to Lady Gaga on Thursday, April 18, 7:30 p.m. at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown. 

Presented in partnership with the Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, all proceeds from the performance support the critically important cause of early lung cancer detection research.
