Musicians Wanted for Annual Friends of Watertown Music’s MusicFest

The Friends of Watertown Music will host its annual fundraiser, MusicFest, in early April and the group seeks performers to take part. The event will be from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on April 6, 2018, at Watertown Middle School, 68 Waverley Ave., Watertown. Suggested donations are $8 per person or $25 for a family. There will also be pizza, refreshments and a bake sale. The event has raised more than $20,000 to support the music program in the Watertown Public Schools.for more information go to Watertownmusic.org.

Mosesian Center Hosting Rock & Roll Celebration with Art Show, Gala

The Mosesian Center for the Arts will host Art & Soul, with a gala featuring an acclaimed Rock & Roll historian, a concert and a BBQ dinner to go along with an art exhibit featuring portraits of rock musicians. Gala
On Thursday, April 12th, The Mosesian Center for the Arts will honor Peter Guralnick, Rock ‘n’ Roll historian extraordinaire and acclaimed author, known for his prize-winning two-volume biography of Elvis Presley, Last Train to Memphis and his most recent biography, Sam Phillips: The Man who invented Rock ’n’ Roll. The evening’s Rock ‘n’ Roll celebration – Art & Soul, a fundraiser for the Mosesian Center for the Arts (MCA) kicks off with a Memphis-style BBQ dinner followed by a spirited conversation with Guralnick and storied writer, and editor Mark Feeney, followed by a Rock ‘n’ Soul Revue featuring Giant Kings with Special Guests Barrence Whitfield, Dennis Brennan, Andrea Gillis, and Jesse Dee! The Revels singing group will celebrate the coming of spring with its Spring Sing in Watertown this March, the group announced. Revels Spring Sing – A Family Celebration of the Vernal Equinox on Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00pm at the Belmont-Watertown UMC, 80 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown, MA. Wave goodbye to winter surrounded by budding forsythia and sprigs of green at  this joyful family celebration of spring filled with music, songs and mumming fit for the season! Revels music director Megan Henderson leads the festivities which include lots of communal singing, a seriously funny mummers play, delicious refreshments, plus a visit from that ancient harbinger of spring, the Padstow ‘Obby ‘Oss, all the way from Cornwall, England!

Revels seeks a diverse and talented volunteer chorus of adults and children (ages 7-12) to join our family for 18 performances of The Christmas Revels at Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre in Cambridge, December 14-29, 2018. While Revels uses a number of professional performers in its productions, its volunteer chorus of adults and children are at its core.

Revels Performing Night of Mediterranean Music in Watertown

Revels singing group will be present a night of Mediterranean music and song with Tenores de Aterúe – in Concert in Watertown on Saturday Jan. 20, 2018. The evening features Gideon Crevoshay, Avery Book, Carl Linich, and Doug Paisley. The concert will be at Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church, 80 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown, on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.

Watertown Resident Singing as Part of Boston’s First Night Day Celebrations

Watertown resident Kim Leeds will sing alto in The Museum of African American History/The Handel & Haydn Society’s Sixth Annual Jubilee Day Concert, which is part of Boston’s First Night Day Celebrations. The Handel & Haydn Society sent out the following information:

The Handel and Haydn Society and the Museum of African American History proudly announce the sixth annual Jubilee Day Concert, part of First Night First Day Boston, and in partnership with Trinity Church Boston. Conducted by Scott Allen Jarrett and featuring narrated passages from the Emancipation Proclamation by poet Regie Gibson, the concert takes place Sunday, December 31 at 2 pm at Trinity Church, located in Boston’s Copley Square. The concert is free and open to the public, on a first come, first served basis. This year’s Jubilee Day concert program features music by Mendelssohn, Bach, and Handel as well as readings of the Emancipation Proclamation – all based on “two broader themes of ‘Hope in the Lord’ and ‘Be Not Afraid,’” shares conductor Scott Allen Jarrett.

Singing Deli Worker Delights Russo’s Shoppers, Becomes an Internet Sensation

A Facebook video of a Russo’s deli worker singing Christmas songs has gone viral, and caught the attention of news outlets both locally and nationally. 

Gillie Assuncao began working at Russo’s just four months ago as a dishwasher but now works in the market’s deli area. The Brazilian native also has an amazing baritone voice. The store posted a video of Assuncao singing to customers over the weekend and it took off. It also caught the attention of media, both locally and nationally. He has been interviewed by news outlets, including Boston’s WBZ Channel 4 and the national ABC News.
