Watertown Declares Snow Emergency for Nor’easter, Schools Dismissing Early

The Town of Watertown declared a Snow Emergency due to the impending snow storm forecast to hit the area on Monday afternoon through Tuesday. Also, the Watertown Schools will dismiss early on Monday, but the status of Tuesday’s school day has not been announced, as of 9:50 a.m. Monday. Superintendent of Schools Dede Galdston announced early dismissal times for the Watertown Public Schools on Monday. She did not announce plans for Tuesday, but said if a snow day is declared, there will be no remote learning, it will be like a normal snow day. See more details below.

Snow Storm Could Drop More than 6 Inches on Watertown

The snowfall forecast for Dec. 16 and 17 from WBZ Channel 4. A Nor’easter will be hitting Eastern Massachusetts late Wednesday to late Thursday and is expected to impact the morning commute. The storm will likely hit the Boston area around midnight, according to WBZ Channel 4 weather. Watertown falls in the area where 6 to 12 inches of snow is forecast.

Another Nor’easter Heading Toward Watertown on Monday & Tuesday

Just when the Snow Emergency from the last storm was lifted another Nor’easter looms on the horizon for Watertown and the rest of Eastern Massachusetts. The  third snow storm this month is due to start hitting Monday and continue through Tuesday with half a foot or more of snow possible. 

The National Weather Services has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 11 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018, to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Forecasters from different TV stations have different predictions, but all say that Eastern Massachusetts is likely to get several inches of snow. WHDH Channel 7 weather forecasters say it will be 6-12 inches. WCVB Channel 5’s forecast says 5-10 inches, and WBZ Channel 4 predicts 6-9 inches. The snow will not be as wet and heavy as the last storm, and wind gusts of 25 mph are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Nor’easter Could Dump Several Inches of Snow on Area on Thursday

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Eastern Massachusetts on Thursday, and the storm could drop half a foot or more of snow on Watertown. The Nor’easter is forecast to hit the area beginning the around 1 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, and continue through the day.

Winter’s First Nor’easter Heading Toward Watertown on Thursday

Winter’s first big storm will hit the Boston area on Thursday, with three or more inches of snow forecast for Watertown. 

Snow will fall before 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, and will turn to rain. At 5 p.m. it will be a mix of rain and snow. After 11 p.m. the precipitation will turn back to snow. WCVB Channel 5’s early snowfall forecast shows Watertown on the edge of the areas with 1-3 inches and 3-6 inches. The Cape will get less than an inch, while West of Worcester and New Hampshire will get more than 6 inches. Friday’s forecast is for sunny weather with a high of 37 degrees.
